Hello, i am new here and i am currently working on this picture and this is what i have done to date. Any crits and such would be welcome. As i am a sci-fi/fantasy artist, i plan to have her holding a small creature, maybe a dragon or something. I haven't yet done her arms yet, and i still have much more to do with shadows, lighting, her clothing and skin tones. I will post 2 versions, one of her face closeup and one of her body overall. Are the proportions of her face and body ok (shoulder width, chest)? I have used some photo reference for nose and mouth. Feedback would be great.

looking good so far, normally I'd paint the body BEFORE the clothes as it's easy to end up with mistakes in anatomy that's hard to notice if you do things the other way round, but it's your picture, what works works. keep us updated ^^

Well I think the nose can be a bit more refined (shape wise).
When it comes to beauty for asians... girls pale is perfered but tan looks nice too.

Here are a few links for other types of nose shapes for that angle.

The right eye looks higher than the left. Cool colors!

I have finally updated here after many months. I am still going with this digital illustration and its taking forever, but i am determined to finish it. I have done some of the background and i am in the process of drawing the dragon creature. Any comments are welcome

i think the eyebrows are to far from the eyes and her nose looks flat.as if she ran into a wall, face first.but i could be wrong maybe ts the angle of the head

Asians tend to have a more "flat" profile so I don't see a problem there. I also do not see a problem with the eyebrows. The painting in its entirety does look a little flat though. ;) Nothing a little more work on shading and highlights wouldn't fix.

Also =) Nice job on avoiding painting hands lol. I often used to try and do that myself. Hands are very expressive tho. You should really try to incorporate them. No matter the difficulty.

Hope that helps.

There is no connection between the background, the dragon and the girl, in terms of light.

I would suggest a more defined lighting situation. Choose a place for a light source and let the characters and the environment be influenced by it. It will link all elements together and create a certain mood at the same time. Highlights (as TwitchyHamster mentioned) and shadows are the most important things missing here I think.

Have fun!
