View Full Version : fluid smokering not responding to fields?

hello all-

I'm in a real bind. I have created a 3D fluid smoke ring. and have worked it down to being very pretty. However, now the fluid shape is not reacting to any field I apply to it. Even if I put the field's magnitude up to like 5000, still nothing.? And I know they are connected, cuz I check it in the dynamic relationships editor. In an older version of the file it worked but now it doesn't. Are there any 3D fluid experts out there that have any suggestions where to start troubleshooting this thing? I would take any ideas..any at all!

Thank you very much.

-is the fluid cached?
-is there attenuation on the field?
-is the fluid density/velocity set to static?

hello apoc519-

yes I've deleted the cache. no there isn't much attenuation on the fields.
ah! that did something..the density/velocity was on dynamic. Thank you so much. :) right now i've got the magnitude to like 3000 so it is completely destroying the ring but after I turn that down i should be back on route.

I got the ring to interact with the field but now the ring is disipating and not continuously generating more fluid particles. the disipation is on zero. Is there another attribute that should be set differently.

the project is to make a everlasting realistic smokering and it is going to hover in a room.

Thank you again!

are you constantly emitting fluid during the simulation?

Make sure you turn on some damping as well because when you introduce fields the velocity can tend to get out of control

it looks like the volume emitter is not emitting thoughout the simulation. But i couldn't find any attrib that would make it contantly emit? How would i find that?

Thanks I added more damping to it.
