*warning - noob question ahead* :D

aight, i think i know the answer to this.. but i thought id take a stab out there..

so i'm working w/ splines... and i have a 5 sided shape (roughly outlined in yellow), and i'm trying to put a surface on it that i will later meshsmooth etc. however, this particular shape is highly curved (front section of car). so when i throw that extra line in (red, selected in pic) it really messed up the curve. i've spent a long time trying to get it ta be smooth.. w/ not a lot of success.. is there a better way to do this? i hope so.. seems like there should be, as this is really being a pain in my ass.. but its a fun pain.. still lovin getting the hang of max:buttrock:

thanks!

I use my own method called spline meshing which comines kind of spline modeling with polys...

I do one of two thigns... if I can get a quick surface built from the splines with a surface modifier i do that... otherwise, I build a new polygon using the 3d snap tool and using the spline as my guide... I'm in the middle of writing a huge thing about it.. dunno when it will be ready...

As for trying to do your thing... You need to think about these issue and plan your splines.... you can try adding a segment and creating a horizontal rib across the hood that follows the proper lines...

what car r u modeling?

hey, thanks for your help!

1) yeah, that sounds like what i've been doing.. maybe not.. when i come accross a polygon w/ 5+ sides, i use snap and throw another line or two in there. i planed it pretty well, but there seem to be a few places where it just didn't work out.. so, i'll keep working on it, and i look forward to see what you're writing...

2) a 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago.. i've been taking screen shots and saving all the time, so when i finish, i'll throw all that up here.. its a very slow process for me, because i'm new to this.

thanks for your help! and thanks again for the hosting thang.. i'll be using that in the future.. is that ur site?

yes its my site

take your time and do it right... you should start off by outlining your car with splines... trust me... its very helpful
