Crystal Dynamics, the leading game developer with critical and commercial successes like "Tomb Raider: Legend" and the "Legacy Of Kain" series, is has an immediate need for a senior lighting artist for an unannounced next-gen title currently in development at its studio in Menlo Park in the heart of Northern California's Bay Area.

Position Requirements:


Expert level understanding of 3D lighting models including ray-tracing, radiosity, ambient occlusion, HDRL, vertex lighting, as well as light & Shadow maps
Experience with Maya, Mental ray, Turtle, and real time in-game lighting solutions
Ability to work with minimal supervision to take ownership of lighting R&D and help set the quality bar for next generation lighting
Use the principles of light, color, and atmosphere to emphasize the definition and form of characters and 3D environments and spaces
Must have the ability to direct the player’s attention, express emotion, and understand the constraints of lighting for gameplay while maximizing the aesthetic quality
Should have a solid understanding of the challenges of real time lighting solutions and have shipped at least one title with a focus on lighting


Position Preferences:
At least 5 years of relevant experience
Both pre-rendered experience as well as game experience highly desirable
Experience of cinematic lighting and staging a plus
Next-Gen familiarity, experience with per pixel lighting and shader creation
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Proficiency in other areas such as modeling, texturing, and UV layout
Must show a portfolio that demonstrate both artistic and technical knowledge
Arts related college degree desired
