I am looking for a way to on a quad or N-gon to adjust the
triangulation of the surface for shading reasons but not actually triangulate it.
create a poly cube
Select Display > Custom Polygon Display > to open the window.
Check of Triangles and hit Apply and close.
your cube will now show the tri-edges that are cutting across the quad face.
There does not seem to be any way in Maya to affect this edge. What's more
is that if you pick a vertex and translate it, the edge will at some point flip
its self the other way. Does not sound like a big deal but if you have vertex colors on the mesh it cause the colors to shift because the invisalbe triangles are constaly
recalucating.
I do not want to have to triangulate the mesh I want to keep it a quad and change how
the triangles divide. I can not find a way to affect these triangles or to keep the
surface from re-triangulating.
Thanks,
Brad
