I need to grow some grass in maya with paint effects. Using the End Bounds > min/max clip and Pressure Scale > Scale, Tube Length attributes I can get decent results with two keyframes. The issue I am having is if I animate the tube length (length of grass) to grow with the max clip attr. (visibility along stroke) then the grass is not the full length until all the grass has appeared. Right now everything is uniform. Make sense?

I need the grass that has appeared due to max clip to grow to its full length before all the grass has appeared on screen.

I hope this is clear. Basically i want short grass to appear as it "grows" along a stroke, and it to grow to full length as more short grass is appearing further down the stroke.

Any ideas?

You can do that creating a new time node, then you just need to key the time.
Select your Paint FX, then open the hypergraph, then type this " createNode time".
Now connect the output of the new time node to the Time node of the PFX.
Go to the flow animation section of the PFX, put flow speed to 1.
Now key the time :)
I remember that there was a nice Tutorial by Duncan on Highend3d website.

Hope it Helps

ps:sorry about english

Cheers!

I ended up using time clip and stroke time in the flow animation along with the graph editor to shift the keyframes for growth in seconds.
