ok this is probably the most simple thing but heres my problem, i want to add a shader to a part of a ring and a differnt shader to differnt part, how i've been trying to do this by splitting the mesh, so i have 2 seperate parts one with a gold color the other with a silver. now it seems to be ok until i mesh smooth, ya i know what it does to it, i know its messing it up because i split the mesh, now i want to get it so i can add the shader to the parts i want without having to split the mesh, any help with this would be awsome! :)

EDIT: i know you can seclect the part of the mesh that u want then apply the shader, but what i want to do is make it its own section but still attached to the other mesh.

thanks,

Look up "Multi/SubObject material" and "Material ID" in the online help.
