Hi,

I would like to know from you what is the best way to setup and render interior of a shopping mall? Since it has so many glass and steel element, hundreds of light fixtures and other glossy objects it may take months to render for an 4-5 minute animation.

What is the best solution for lighting for this kind of large scale project? And also my question is how to reduce the rendering time and what type of lights and renderers should be should used?

I work with 3ds max and mainly use vray for interiors. for this mall i dont think vray will be a good solution since i have very little to render the entire animation.

Thanks for any advice...

I don't know Max that well but if I were to do this in XSI, I would try and break the shot up in passes to make it more managable. To reduce render time you have to think about tweaking your reflection and refraction ray depth settings (if you can do this in max, can't think why not).

That would obviously reduce the reflection and refraction detail but if you need it quickly give it a go. Also, global illumination will increase your render times. Area lights as well.

But what you can do depends a lot on the specific job.

This thread will get better attention in the Max specific forum though. ;)

spikkel, thanks a lot for your suggesstion. yes, in 3ds max also i can tweak reflection and refraction to reduce rendering time. i will better post in the 3dsmax specific forum,
