you may want to start by possibly using a layered shader approach, maybe blending between a dermis and epidermis shader based on either angle, or illlumination.
For the Dermis you could go for skin paterning, blemishes, freckles etc + the relavent bump maps to back this up. Make sure you have a shineyness strength map. Uniform shine strength is guaranteed to give a plasticy feel.
For the Epidermis, try using some form of cellular, and either a procedural vein map, or a hand drawn one. This layer is only subtly seen through the dermis so detail is not as critical.
Try and use a renderer such as brazil, vray or Final Render that supports SSS scattering, and even better, forward scattering, to help give your thin skin areas translucency (nose, ears, eyelids).
then, be prepared for a lot of experimentation and test renders to get your shader anywhere near skin. Its a very difficult task to acheive, and as such requires a LOT of time to get anything even half decent.. Good luck :)
