Well, as u can see, it's ugly
actually no, it's TERRIBLE.
NemesisFIN made a real nice one, did his little gold tutorial but mine is nowhere near it. Must be because i'm such an expert in lighting :annoyed:
1. I don't know much about texturing, look at that nice ugly tiled floor i made
2. Inscription on the ring...arf, no words needed for that. Had no clue how to get it on there, but I managed, in a bad way.
U might think "oh no, not another lotr ring", well, your right. But I think I can learn a lot out of this, since i'm a n00b. Some texturing, lighting,...
So I was thinking if the pro's here could guid me trough this, with tips and hints how to improve, would be VERY helpfull.
NemesisFIN, I hope your reading this :D
peace :hmm:

Why do people keep putting the writting on the outside? Sure it was there in the movie, but im pritty sure in the book it only showed up on the inside.
Also, you might want to use a higher quality map for the text, or boolean it out. I can see pixlation on the edges of the letters.
ps the text on the inside is backwards.
pps if your using brazil you should use skylighting or object lighting, itll make the reflections alot better.

New poster here. Here is the exact text fromt TLOTR
'Hold it up!" said Gandalf. 'And look closely!"
As Frodo did so, he now saw fine lines, finer than the finest penstrokes, running along the ring, outside and inside: lines of fire that seemd to form the letters of a flowing script. They shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth.
The book shows the script on two lines, I would imagine the first line was on the outside and second line was on the inside.

You're doing a really good job. make the background something other then black bacause then you can get some more environmental vibes going on, or even make it white in order to see more detail. Perhaps make the background a picture of some readom room though. And then maybe make the table more real, just add some bump action and make it marble or something. I have no clue, that's what i would do though. I can't guarantee good results =) Ive only been doing tis stuff for a little while. But I like this so far:rolleyes:

Ahh... hehehe... try HDRI on skylight and background.... and add huge white plate on top which illuminates light... I'm just right working on my new web pages... There will be tuorials section... so maybe I but some modeling/lighting/scene setup/rendering tips on it

im no max user so i cant help you on HOW to achieve my suggestion. but it looks like the ring needs some reflections. also consider putting white grids with a constant color into your scene, so they can reflect in the ring for some nice sharp highlights.
