Hey, well I was thinking, and you guys really didnt make it specific enough for the 2d artists.....

If we are doing 2d, are we allowed to do a full coloring of our character background and all, or are we just suppose to draw something in black and white then color it in black and white also, because if so, it sort of beets the point of 2d art. Just wondering what to do about this for I will be doing a 2d piece along with a 3d model. I just need the specifics behind this...........

This question needs to be addressed for I was going to do a 2d piece with background character and all, and a 3d model too, untextured, but I just wanted to make sure it would be alright with the 2d piece I have in mind, everything of course would be done by me, no pics or anything, just straight art skills. and the 3d model will just be a model, no textures or environment, etc. If one of the moderators could answer this question, it would help alot with the 2d artists for I know im not the only one.. Please give the specifics behind the 2d part of the challenge......

thanks.

-BUMP-

Also you might want to try to PM one of the moderators for the Q then ask if they would respond here for all to see.

It could be that when they log on this thread already off the page :(

see you,

I apologise guys, this thread slipped thru my fingers, didn't see it, in any event, just pm us. To answer the question I already spoke about the 2D handicap here
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3776&perpage=15&highlight=h
andicap&pagenumber=2

so you have no worries, I know color is needed to give your 2D art depth..

I hope this answers your question

Hey guys, well I doubled checked that page and basically it says 2d artists have no chance at all with 3d, I know you refered us to this site http://www.artbyfeng.com/ , and the guy is really talented, yet I know as an artist, he would not stand a chance doing a nice drawing then either bringing it into photoshop to do a nice black and white shading? for 2d gets more in depth with it, EQuinox said he will post something about the 2d subject later today to straighten things out, its just, that like I said before, in order to give my flat 2d image depth, I shouldnt be restricted to give it color, for black and white normally go hand in hand with shadows. Whatever you guys decide, please post it here, also I will keep doing the 2d drawig ive been working on and let you guys make the final decision on it when its complete. gratsi...

You did read my reply on the second page right? http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3776&perpage=15&highlight=h&pagenumber=2 I *did* state that color is allowed for depth in 2D art that's why it has a handicap, wouldn't be really fair otherwise

what lil D meant is that 2d artists are allowed to use color/"texture" in their work, cause that will be needed to give it depth & detail . . .

Aaahh what a relieve!!

So I can continue with my original idea! Great!
