Holla guys,

I am extremely sorry as this is almost similar to New Site Requests but the problem is that, that thread was almost sounding like I was talking about developing a forum.

So please guys, try to understand before discarding this as a repost shit.

I want to precisely know which sections, features you would like to have in your XSI dream site.
[like free subdomain hosting, galleries, downloads, news tuts etc.]

Also mention if you some feature very annoying to you on the web, so that I will make sure it does not go into the site at any cost.

I have decided on the name (I will reveal it when it is registered), and some of the features, design and layout of the site.

So guys please get this thing rolling and discuss freely.

Bye for now.

Hail XSI.

Hiya.

Here you go...

* A place to upload/download "Assets". Like Materials, Models, Character Rigs, Custom Layouts, etc.

* Forum (kind of a no brainer).

* Live Chat room? What about a MS NetMeeting (or other "meeting" type program)? Use this to set up 'group work'; taking advantage of XSI's NetView and all that other net stuff.

* Free, Cheap, Expensive web hosting for XSI artists. Free could be something like 50MB. Cheap goes to 150MB. Expensive upwards of 500MB. You'd have to figure costs and all that. But it shoud be cheaper or compareable to other web hosting folks.

* "Artist of the Month" spotlight. Link to site, and all that. Interview, etc. I always like reading about other artists out there.

* The site should be HTML. No flash-this or java-that. I vastly prefer to use Mozilla, but some sites are all "fancy"; they take longer to download, they are "unresizeable", I can't choose my text size, etc. A royal PITA. If you do go the Flash/Java/Whatever way, make damn sure you test it in IE, Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera. It should work in ALL. If you can, you might want to check up on those using a Linux box too; XSI is available there to.

* A kick ass Tutorial/Links section. Like the one for "Maya" here:
http://www.maya3d.dk/links/tutorials/index.asp?filterT=&filter=&alf=&order=Added

That's all I can think of right now. Maybe more later. :)

looks like the response in the last thread by The_Jaco was not understood.
What does it help to copy what is already there? if you do it for a big community then it's ok, but the XSI community is not so big.
We already have interviews, tutorials, forums, scripts, contest and on and on.

You said you have a UNIQUE idea....doesn't look like this at the moment. doesn't make sense to me.

OK raffael,

u want it u got it.
it seems to me u are already scared.

and for the idea front i can tell u that the name of the site itself will blow u away (along with ur site)

i never talk to people harshly, raffael but u seem to be a vindictive man

i can understand what it is like to be in a monopoly, and i can also understand why r u so worried

listen raffael, if i am too harsh i am sorry but competition brings the best out of tough men (and i guess u are one)

so let us have a healthy competition, it will only hlp us and XSI.

remember adversity is the touchstone for greatness

my advice:be more liberal, tolerant and broad minded it helps.

bye for now , hpe to hear more from u.

Hail XSI.

I don't fear competition, nor is it a problem when you create a new site. I support several other xsi communites that are already around. I just have the same concerns as The_Jaco wrote very well in the other thread. Do whatever you want, we are actually here to give tips on how this page can be successful. Most of the people here are in the XSI scene for several years, including myself. From that we simply learned that it is not too big and I may just ask what it helps to try to split what is there. As I said before, try to make something unique. Waht does it help if all the pages are offering the same thing?
My comments above are coming from that, that you contradict yourself in many ways, that's all. Attacking me in that way is also not very professional either. You wrote the name of the site itself will blow u away (along with ur site. with this you actually proved all of my concerns that helping the community is definitely not one of your most important goals, also again not a very professional statement, but I'm sure you know that yourself.
This is your decision in the end and I don't care. I only care about a great Softimage community and that's we are trying to do at XSI Base.

Raffael,

I am sorry, man for I hurt you, never really wanted to but I did. (Really, anger makes a man's thoughtprocess so distorted).
But raffael , my anger was not all that unjustified. Constant bashing from you and other XSI base fellas was really too much because I never intended to make profit from my endeavour; it was all for the intellectual Softimage community.

And yes , Raffael, enough of this duel thing, we can continue our rivalry once my site is up and running. For now let this thread sound like what it is intended to be - an XSI Site WISHLIST rather than - Should there be another XSI site, other than XSI base.
" The enormous energy that a person wastes in checking the growth of others can be put to much better use if it were to be used for the growth of the self."

Raffael, I am sorry for my hard edged tongue ; I forgot that " the four evils of the tongue are lying, slander, abuse and idle talk".With that I take your leave raffael.

And to other CG Talk members:
Keep your replies coming. Keep thinking and submitting the wildest idea you ever had of a dream site. Never mind the duel between me and raffael.:) I will be proud even if I lost to him - he's that kind of a great guy. " Victory in defeat is the real victory".

Bye guys,
Keep them coming,
Hail XSI.

 Nodobdy tried to bash you. Read the posts more carefully. People posted their concerns about splitting a community and they gave you a lot of constructive critisism for the page. Nobody said "don't do it", but rather which points you should think about.
I don't share your idea of competition. I don't see another page as a competition nor will I participate in a competition thing with you.
As long as it helps the community and doesn't hurt it then it's good.
