Hi try to work on your lighting.
Look like render in scanline, and light is toltal flat if you know what i mean.

Try use gi,and look at some tutorials.
here one abought fake gi in scanline.
http://67.15.36.49/team/Tutorials/fake_gi/fake_01.asp
and one tutorial by me for vray

Well gamma 1.8 is ok,but if you shall work correct in linear space.
You have to use 2.2 this is for vray mental ray .....

Hope this help a little.
Rember lighing is one of the most importan ting in 3d.
when you shall show thing that you have made.
So spent some time to try to learn it

Keep on rendring:)

Some advice friend, While looking at the cigars, I think you should pay more attention to the tabbaco maps, first time I looked at the cigars, I thougt they are sausages, maybe more bump will help. keep up bro, don't let anything discourage you... Peace
