When you guys animating a character (that has a speech to deliver), do you start with lipsync of the character and then do the rest of the body or visa versa?

I usually don't focus on lip sync until the very end (often, unfortunately, when I don't have enough time). Of course, I don't want the lip sync to be so bad it calls attention to itself -- but I'm not picky about it. My idea is that if I have a strong performance, no one will really be watching the lips.

(... if the performance was based on how he was pronouncing words, and the point of the shot was to focus on the lips, then I would, of course, put more weight on it.)

It's all about the performance, lip sync is secondary to the acting in my opinion. 'A picture speaks a thousand words'.
