I... AM... SO... THERE!!!

Little shocks of youthfulness just surged through my system... this is very Eastman & Laird. This makes me very happy.

I've been really interested in seeing the turtles adapted for CG film. I think they nailed everything but the design of their heads...

HOLY CRAP!!

The animation style is perfect - lots a grace, squash and stretch, stylization.
I agree with agreenster though, the heads do look a bit weird.

The animation was good, though too frog like in my opinion. The heads are really odd like others were saying.

Just can wait to see it! The global style really fit with the ambiance, gret animation, but I agree with the fact that they seem to move like frogs and... what happens to their face?

Ghostscape

This is freakin' awesome.

The eyes are a little far apart, it looks more like the earlier comic book work and less like the 90s cartoon.

07-21-2006, 01:37 AM
That was pretty sweet! I love the way they move and the camera work is awesome.
Even though I enjoyed the cartoons, I prefer the darker ninja-like style (yes even with the wide white eyes) harking back to the original comics over the "cowabunga" surfer dudes incarnation in the cartoons. Although the ending to the teaser does have that cartoon thing going but hey, it's all good!

Man first transformers and now this! WOOOT! All we need now is he-man and the trinity of retro-ocity will be complete for 07. They look a little skinny to me but I'm still so there.

Never a fan(in fact I thought it was kind of retarded), but they've got a brilliant animation style going here. That's a really snappy trailer. I'll probably check it out.

Like others have said the face might be a little off. I hope the character animation is as good as the action animation.

rblitz7
07-21-2006, 02:14 AM
looks like they're still gona have some of the "cowabunga" style in it

I thought the faces were alright. It's the frog thing that doesn't really look right to me. I think they should tone down the squash n stretchy feeling a bit, they're looking a little too rubbery on their jumps.

*edit oh noes on that michaelangelo poster :0

Lots of people are commenting on the character designs... Hmm... Must not have read the original comics.

These designs are almost perfect representations the original, early works of Eastman and Laird. As for the "frog-like" comments... Stylized animation is nothing new.

Definitely looking forward to this one.

have a signed copy of the first volume of the graphic novel in the other room, that doesn't mean that the original designs translate well to 3d, thats all i think anyone who has comments about the design is trying to say

MASK!! Hell yeah!

I never did get too in to TMNT. The cartoons were ok, not really my style by the time they came out. The previous movies were… …entertaining. really good animatronics work though.

This looks really good and should do the "series" justice.

R was rumored at one point... I find this doubtful. It will hopefully be PG13 though... I'd still hedge bets on PG in the end. I think it really all come down to what production company is really running the show.

the still images [movie posters] don't do this movie justice! you have to see it in action!

i've been a huge TMNT fan... from the comics, cartoon, toys, and the 4 player arcade game! can't wait to see this.

i wonder who the bad guys will be [besides Shredder]? since they are doing CG, they could pull off Rocksteady and Bebop.

the summary on Quicktime says that Shredder isn't in the movie, it's some millionaire with an army of robotic warriors or something like that.

I'm so sorry I was ever a nay-sayer, it was all b/c of weinstein's record with CG movies so far (not to discredit anyone, just to say they didn't seem interested in spending a ton of money on it) but this looks SO AWESOME!

Hopefully they keep Vanilla Ice out this time, though.

I'm just curious if you guys are really hard core fans.... did any one go to the Ninja Turtle Concert back in like the late 80's early 90's? There was a cassette tape with songs too, like Pizza Power. Was anyone else there with me, or am I the uber dork? :D

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/mirage/one/pg07.jpg

give the old Comic/cartoon movies to the hands of those MEN growing as kids with those cartoons,,,and they will deliver you the right thing.....WHAT EVERY ONE ALWAYS LIKE TO SEE AS A FAN.......thats why im a little worried about that TRANSFORMERS movie......give em to hard core fans....hey hollywood??you want money??make what people want to see ,then gain twice as money as you earned by daredevil or FF4

That is why Rami did a great job on Spiderman.

Give it to the fans of the old school comics and toons. The ones who grew up with it.

Whoever is doing Transformers has me scared about the movie. Prepared to be disappointed. This one however looks fun. That trailer was a great trailer and exciting. Very well done.

I like their design, animation style and overall atmosphere, but their heads are (IMHO) still stiff like masks - dead - without life in their eyes. I don't know where they're looking. I hope facial animation is going to be much more convincing in actual movie.

TMNT?

Pfff... buncha Bill & Ted rip-offs! Neo is still the one!

LOL! Just kidding!

I love TMNT! Turtle Power! I drew them all my elementary life! I was a big fan til I found porn. :scream:

Though I like the animation on this teaser... as a 3d artist myself, I wasn't that impressed with the rendering. I don't know, I'm too picky. I dunno. 3d has been more sophisticated these days. The buildings from the distance could've used more blurs, backgrounds are too sharp, i could see too much detail and distracts me from their performance, etc. etc. And where's the green, man?!!! My turtles are suppose to be lean-green-fighting-machines!

Maybe The Incredibles has put the bar too high (for me). -Shrugs-

But heck, I'll be there the first day it opens! Cowabunga dudes!!!

It looks AWSOME... the animation and style is great.. a bit frog like but it kinda makes them more ninja like..:)

and i like the characters.. there like some crossover between the old and new TMNT.. they are not as choppy and have more like a "ninja" body... slim and strong... it looks really great,
the eyes look great too even though with the white eyes in the beginning looking more "rough"\"though" it works well with those normal eyes.... the head is fine it is almost just like the "old" TMNT...

so TMNT here i COME!

Loved it totally! I think I like the design of the faces, it looks more agressive!
Also, I was thinking that this is such a clever product. There is a whole bunch of people thatīll after this because they loved it when they were kids, and there is a generation I think that doesnt even know who they are. Plus I donīt know if itīll work with them!

Myself I canīt wait to see it!! cheers!

The 1st live action turtles film was on channel 5 in the UK last night, and i really enjoyed it! I was expecting it to be really crap now i have removed my rose-tinted 'nostalgia' glasses...
It was loads better than i remember and a superb adaptation. The animatronic/ suited turtles looked great, the fight scenes were good, shredder was actually quite scary, the story was well done, the look of the film was very dark and gritty. It was pretty authentic to the cartoon, but brought convincingly into the real world.
Awesome soundtrack too - MC hammer, Ya kid K and my fave - Spunkadelic: 9.95 - OH YEAH!

The sequels were a bit crap though. Considering they couldve done baxter stockman, the rat king, mousers and krang, they got a bit rubbish with the power-rangers baddies castoffs bebop and rocksteady, and that daft time travelling one.

As for this new one - i like the animation style and the body proportions, but the heads look really basic and 'super deformed'

YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING!!

Oh Hod, I even got some horrible neon yellow nunchucks at that...

I would love to see them take on the T.C.R.I aliens. I also hope they make april o'neal black or Puerto Rican like I really think she was in the original comic. Baxtor stockman would be cool too. It'd be nice if the movie did well enough for them to make it into a new series on mtv or something.

I wonder if they will change the release date of TMNT. I only say that because Disney Release's Meet the Robinsons (http://www.movieweb.com/movies/film/01/3501/summary.php), the same day. Two animated films going head to head!!! But if they are released at the same time, I'm seeing TURTLES!

Hopefully TMNT will really be focused at a different, more mature audience, and then it won't matter... in fact it could be genius to release them the same day in that event.

Congrats on the post.

Another MASK fan here. I even play the theme song ever once in awhile.

"MA-MA-MA-MASK! Is the mighty power that can save the day!"

Mask?
Come on, it where the Thundercats that rocked.
Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats HOOOO!

I've been really interested in seeing the turtles adapted for CG film. I think they nailed everything but the design of their heads...

I always thought the design of the heads is not my kind of flava,
everything else I must say is very superb to my eyes. :applause:

You know what hooked my about this trailer? I think the one thing they really nailed from the old comics is the look of the city. There's something about it that's unmistakably similar to the backgrounds and cover art from E&L's books.

No, the nailed the heads. This just isn't the carppy cartoon that showed up to promote sneakers, pizza and toy weapons.

They'd better not! Its coming out on my birthday!
Incidently, the first live-action TMNT movie was released on the same exact date. I remember because I was like 12, it seemed like a birthday present.

I think for me it's mostly the mouth, and their lack of lips/gum area. If they can get some good deformations and emotions out of the mouths, then I'll be happy. They had to tweak the design a bit (adding more defined lips) for the live action movies, and it was pretty successful as far as animatronics go.

It's hard to judge from the trailer, but based on everything else in it, they have a good art director. I gotta say, I'm getting more and more excited about this! I'd really love to work on it.

*SIGH* Can't view it without a direct link. The streaming apple video stuff never works for people behind a proxy server. I'll have to try and remember to check it out when I get home tonight.

Do you think that scheme actually worked? Lets see: I had about 100 figures, ninja turtle pajamas, went to a ninja turtle concert, have almost the whole series on tape, not to mention all 3 movies, posters, animation cell, comic books, turtle com, turtle van, various stuff from the new animated series that people gave me, and an extreme respect for that mighty circular thing we call... a "pizza".

Brainwashed and still loving them! :D

That link is a trick quicktime uses. It's not really the video file. It's a 1KB container file that re-directs you to the real location of the video. Unfortunatly that stills causes problems for people like who are behind proxy servers at work.

BUT if you are lucky you can open the file with something like notepad and puzzle out the path to the real video. If you are real lucky that path does not have any weird protections scheme. And if you are really really lucky you end up with this:
