View Full Version : Problems opening Maya Files
TigerCGI 01-20-2003, 12:21 AM I'm a student trying to open Maya 4.0.2 files on lab machines that have Maya 4.5 so that I can render on them. When I try to open the .ma file I get an error that says..."There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2." I've tried both .ma and .mb files downloaded from an FTP and off of CD's (R and RW). Anybody have any idea what's going on here and what a fix would be? Thanks everyone.

That sounds more like a tech problem than a Maya problem. There is a driver conflict most likely. Have you tried restarting the machine? Hopefully that will be the cure to the problem. If you school is using W2K Pro, that should cure it. If it doesn't, can you give us a screen shot of the error message? Just crop the pic down in Photoshop and slap it in here (under 30k, use Save for Web option).

School machines are running W2K Pro, however, restarting doesn't help. Although I know XP Home isn't "supported" by Alias, that's what I'm using at home. It's been running great with absolutely no problems, except this little pesky thing where the files won't move over to w2k. Here's the screen shot.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you quick enough. It still looks like a tech problem. I can't think of anything that would do that straight out of Maya. Unless Maya.exe is corrupted.
The only other thing I can mention is to go into your .ma file and delete the top lines that mention the "uses Maya 4.0.2" or whatever it says. That might work. Good Luck.

maybe references to textures which maya tries to load from a drive that obviously isn't available - just a wild guess

Open the scene file in a text editor and change the path listed in the error to the correct path.. use find and replace
