With maya sub-d, is it possible to rig something at the polygonal proxy level and have all the details work with jus the low res version rigged? Sorry if I'm not making a huge ammount of sense here. I'm a max animator who's got his hands on the PLE and trying to understand the new concepts. Any light you could shed on the usability of sub d would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Cg.

you could convert the subd to a polygon object at level 0 and keep the original. Then just hide the original subd object and work with the lowpoly one (uvs, rigging, animating, whatever).

Hope that helps.

Btw, Maya Character Animation by Jae jin-Choi (published by Sybex) is a great reference for this stuff...

you could always make a copy, convert it to polys and make a wrap deformer with it. then you can paint weights, add influence objects to the low poly mesh, and have a faster model for animating!

hope that helps,
