Hello All,

I need to create a shot in my film and I'm not sure how to achieve this. (This all happens in the rain outside) the main character sets a suit case down , just as he sets the suitcase down a large worm rises up behind him , slowly the character turns around in fear. This is all one shot. What I'm not sure about is how I should shot the video and what part should be shot separate or together, to achieve the best results. I have access to a green screen if needed, I have tracking software, and I know how to model and rig the worm. I did some research and below is the process I think I should follow. I'm also not sure what small details and such I should be sure to pay attention to. I’d like to get a few advanced composters views on how I should go about completing this shot. Any help even tips or tuortials would be greatly appreciated.

The second question is how much more work would it be to have the worm bite half of him off , leaveing his legs standing there bleeding. What would change in my process if I wanted to complete the shot like that?

1. Shoot a video without character (keep track of were the camera is located, take measurements)
2. Shoot HDRI image for lighting worm in 3D space
3.Shoot green screen shot of main character going through the actions from the same angle
4.Model, light and rig CG Worm
5.Compsite three together in after effects

thanks,
Chris

if you want the worm to bite him then you would expect to see some interaction in the lighting between him and the worm. This could be tough if you are outside as lighting is hard to control. but a worm big enough to byte the top of a man would cast a fair bit of shadow on hey?!?

Other than that just use masks to roto the top of the worm over him and then use 3d or track a 2d ' gore" section onto the area where he has been removed. So you may need to make sure that you have distinctive regions that you can track from here. Add lots of little cues like blood flows and dust or other particles to tie the whole thing together too. Don't just have him chomp and that's it !

Thanks for the help, I'm hoping if I can get a good chomp , I will take it further, I'm somewhat new to creating a completed complex shot. Thanks again for the help, if anyone else has tips or help please post them.
