Hey guys I have a question about modelling a 3D tub for a client. For starters i'm pretty amatuerish when it comes to modelling (maya in general), but I'm at the point where I can create things to an ok extent. But I have stalled on this little problem on creating the corners of this bath tub.

My client wants the tub corners to have all four corners to be rounded off with a upwards facing convex curve like this (. I have been racking my brain for the last couple of days trying to figure out how to do this. If someone could give me some clues or tips, it would be much appreicated. I have included two pics to show what I have so far. If you would like the scene file I would be more than happy to send it.

thanks for all your help,
Steve B

Hey , I'm not sure if this is ehat you mean, but, if you are wanting to create a rounded edge or 'lip' arounf the whole upper edge of the bath, you could use an extrude. What you do is make a curve which will be your path ( select the upper edges of the bath then BonusTools>Modelling>createCurve from edges..) then, draw a curve which is the profile of the lip you want. then select the profile curve, followed by the path curve , then go to Surfaces>extrude. this should create a lip around the top of the bath with the profile you drew. you may need to frig around with the extrude options a little to get it right but that should work.

I hope that helps. :)

Draw what you want, then we will get a better idea how to help.

Ok I Did a quick sketch of the shape i'm looking for with the curve tool. I want to create a shape that sits on top of the corner so that it covers the sharp edge and its more of smooth curve. I downloaded the bonus tools and tried them out but it really didn't give me the shape I wanted.

Thanks for all your help.

so it looks like the extrude tool is waht you are loking for. the curev you drew is the profile curve, then you need to extrude it along a path, which follows the top of your bath. you could draw this path by hand, or you could use the create cureve from edges tool in the bonus tools.

hope it works! :)
