A bit late, but decided I'd give this challenge a shot :). Here's a photoshop sketch of the character I plan to do, called a damora. Strong, not too bright swamp beast. More to come soon.

Not much, but here's what I've got so far. Modelling in Wings.

Around.gif (http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/aroundtest.gif)

Too small to see much of anything. I'm clueless when it comes to making these...either the file size is too big, or the gif is too small. Right now, the size is too big and it's too small. Oh well :p

A still, so you can see it a bit better:

Thanks for the comments/suggestions, guys :D
Gave the back some ridges, hope that helps to keep it from looking too smooth.

Heya mpatton :)

Well, firstly it's a bit tricky to crit this model, because it's difficult to tell where you are going. It seems to be off to a good start, but since your sketch had no detail in it, I am finding it difficult to visualise what this should be looking like.

But aside from that...

Your model does seem to be off to a good start :)

I don't know Wings at all, but I am presuming that you are still in the stages of blocking out your model? In which case, your form so far looks nice, all it needs now is loads of detail.

Perhaps, due to his very hunched over build, you could extend his arms to reach the ground? Surely a beast like this would need extra help to stand up and walk, so it would make sense if he used his arms when walking... Just a thought :)

thats starting to look great man ,

My only crit is at the shoulder and butt area , i think you should round those a bit , right now they look a bit square.

looking forward for the update.

Just a last render before I head out. Looks like importing from Wings to Strata boxes some parts up again. I'll figure it out eventually

Strata still giving you problems, hey?
Well, I'm sure you will sort it out soon :)

Anyhoo, coming along well! Perhaps, instead of lengthening his arms, you could give him a tail? That would help his balance a bit... I think it would also look cool! :D

Also, what are you going to do with the feet? Are you going to add some nice big ol' toes with long, thick nails?

It is a pity that we have made a rule to not allow long hair in this challenge, since I think that long, matted, shaggy hair would probably really suit this guy... Perhaps you could add that at a later stage :)

Keep going, and don't let the trials and tribulations of Strata get to you!

i love the pose, really gives the impression of a beast that takes it cool in the swamps, nobody can really bother him...

i liked the shoulders in the sketch, make him hunch a bit more and raise the shoulders a bit...

Quick toes and tail. Stopping for now. Really ;)

RT Render (http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/quick.jpg)

Yes, I realize only half the model is there. also need to map a shadow for the tail, if I'm going to keep it. Tail makes me think of it as an upright rat, but that could just be because it's a quick stringy tail :p Might make one that fits better later. For now, sleep.

New toes and tail. Shingled tail to match his body a bit better. Maybe a bit too shingled... Liking these toes better though.

I like the segmented tail, but I think it should be toned down a bit. He looks like a raturtle :)

Don't think the eye frowny-ness turned out well. Hope to fix that. Suggestions on how to fix that (or anything else, for that matter) are welcome.
