Title: Portrait Study
Name: Servet Ulas
Country: Turkey
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop, ZBrush

Modelled and textured in Zbrush, I used the base head mesh from Pixologic's website. Lit and rendered in 3d studio max and comped in Photoshop.
Comments are most welcome.

Excellent use of ZBrush! I also like his expression - anger, thought, sorrow..? You've left that up to the viewer to interpret.

I like the fact that you chose to light only half of the face, but as with your Slug I feel that the areas of greatest opportunity are the strength of your lighting and the eyes. This piece has a nice melancholy mood to it, but I think that stronger lighting will not only help show off your modeling, but add to the overall emotional presence. You've got the basis for good three-point lighting going on... actually, it looks more like two-point, but that's fine. I would bump up the intensity of the key light and the fill/backlight. The key light will help show off your work, and the fill/back light will add a nice depth to the piece. Of course making the back light more intense that the key light may offer an interesting and dynamic effect... but you'll have to play with that to see what you think.

The eyes need more specularity and reflectivity. Eyes are wet, so make 'em glossy. Remember that the "eyes are the window to the soul" - well done eyes can really make a portrait.

Overall you've done a great job on the head, the modeling and texturing is excellent! I also like the fact that he has no body hair - it's a nice touch of creepiness.

One other very minor crit: there is a difference in background color behind the head. There's a grey field, that is surrounded by hard black. I'd either make the background completely black, or define the background a little more.

4 stars!

Thank you, your comments are much appreciated. You got it right, there are two lights in the scene:) I will work on the eyes and the general sense of lighting on my next render.Thank you for your input:D Now I understand what I have to work on next time:D
