View Full Version : Need a color eyedropper!
gnarlycranium 01-19-2003, 03:06 PM I don't know if they've fixed this in 5, but in my lowly 4.2 I am getting seriously annoyed that MAX doesn't have a color eyedropper tool. There's a material eyedropper, but not one for colors. This is seriously inconvenient when I want to make a gradient or something from a palette I made in Photoshop or the like-- it's a pain in the rear to use another program to find out the RGB values of dozens of colors, and then type the darn things in.
Does anybody know if there's a script for this?

Pencil + paper.
I couldn't tell you how man scrawls I have of RGB or HSB values laying around my computer.
If you can get your hands on ACO and MAT file formats, you might be able to make a converter. Feed it an ACO file, and it spits out a MAT file with a Multi-Sub material with all of your colours in the slots. A hex editor and some free time - a freak like would do it.
Then again, maybe somebody else has a better solution.
edit: Took a quick peek. Looks like ACT would be alot easier than ACO. I don't have a clue about MAT.

Ouch... when you've got to resort to pencil and paper again, you know there's a problem!! ;)
I can't script.. at all... I'm just a lowly beginner, so I have to go around asking other people. It seems like SOMEBODY would have done something about this by now... hmm

I have a very good small utility for this - EyeDropper.
I can send it to you.

Ack... no good.
KiboOst -- your link is to something that apparently is used for putting in Hex color codes from Photoshop.
Equinoxx -- Yours is nifty, but it only picks things that are already in color swatches. My problem is trying to get the colors I want IN those in the first place.
Guess I should've been more specific-- I need an eyedropper thingie that will pick colors from bitmaps. Just like the eyedropper inside Photoshop or Paint Shop does.

WRONG!
It lets you pick any color from any pixel on your Windows screen. ANYTHING! Even the eye color of a smiley

With hex, it's easy to copy/paste color from toshop, isn't it ? Faster than remeber three rvb value per color. But Equinox script seems nice too, will try it !!
