Hi All,

I've decided (a little late) to participate in this challange. I've been doing a setup for a few days on a character and thought this would be a good place to test him with.
The 3D model is from 3dfestival.com (proton models). If anyone object me using this please tell me so.

Anyhow, first screendump from the setup is below. I should be finished with the envelope today. And shuold start building the set late tonight or tomorrow. Unfortantly my scanner has been broken for a while so I can't give you my thumbnails for this.

The setup is looking good, what are the square splines around his middle ?

Those are rotation controls for his spine.

The "double" square on his hips is for offseting the hip movement.

Hi,

That's a funny guy you have there. But he doesn't look segmented. Did I miss any rule changes? I'm still in the modeling process. So this would be important for me.

never mind.... I just read the part about eliminating the need for an envelope.

Oh well... I guess I'm off the challanges.

I am curious as to why you would let a mere envelope constraint stop you from continuing with the challenge?

c'mon man don't give up. The importance here is to further develop your skill as an animator and you must do whatever it takes to get THAT job done.
You have obviously taken the time to come this far so why let that become a waste?

Dude, I animated a frickin' sphere last challenge. You don't have to quit because you don't want to make segmented geometry. Just make it easy on yourself and use primitive shapes. You don't have to animate a sphere, but you can make a decent looking guy out of primitive shapes and animate the hell out of him.

Don't give up! It's fun and people here are really supportive, so if you need help getting over the hump, we're here for ya.

With new strenght I did some blocking of my character before going to bed.

Cool:thumbsup:
What would be nice is some change in personality/emotion.
He looks like a superhero type and the poses are appropriate for that kind of character.
But how about you give him another dimension by changing his personality mid animation e.g just before he reaches down to get the ring, after he has looked around, he does a little school girl/giddy with joy laugh.
This would work well if you ramped up his superhero poses prior this, e.g hands on hips, chest puffed out etc.

It's looking good, I like that it's not rushed!

I suggest that his looking around poses could be a bit more exciting. I guess I mean open him up some more, such as bringing his arms out a bit an non-symmetrical.

Just my opinion. :)
