I am totally new to Maya. Does Maya have MAX 4 style Meshtools modeling features? Either in the program or with a MEL script? Basically select two verts and hit "connect", and it creates an edge between them, plus select as many edges as you want and hit "connect" and it center divides all the edges with verts and connects them all. And finally you can just select as many edges as you want and hit "divide" and it will add points in the center of the edge without connecting them. Are these features available for Maya?

Thanks

split polygon tool takes care of all "connect" functionality. The main difference between split poly and connect is you are splitting the poly's as you select them and press enter to finalize, just turn snapping tolerance up to make finding the center of the edge easier. Also there is a drawsplit version of the splitpolygon tool, it eliminates the actual clicking and lets you draw with edges so to say, I think it's on AW's site, if not check highend3d.com. Also there is facepath split, if there is a whole row you want to split use that, it selects the the whole row and splits them, no need to select anything. Facepath splits settings will need to be adjusted, and be sure to read the description and instructions in the actual script.

Oh and adding the single vert is done with split poly, just click where you want the vert and press enter.

Heh it sounds like mesh tools isn't very elegant.

Isn't very elegant?

You NEED to give meshtools a try. I honestly cant live without them.

One word "SMOOTH LIKE BUTTAH"...... wait thats three

Oh and bye the way.... there's a lot of awsome tools in meshtools besides connect :) Oh wait, then you also have csPolyTools :D Damn I love this industry.

Yes max's meshtools are quite a bit better than standard modeling practices. In fact mesh tools begin to head in the direction of the maya model set, but after unlearning my max thinking I have found maya's much faster and intuitive.
Not meaning to bring on a big debate with that comment in fact may use max this summer say around July if you catch my drift. (hint:Alamo) So I really am not as bias'ed as you may think at first glance. Just stating what I've found.

Maya have alot better tools then Max Meshtools.. You just have to download the Polygon plugins at Alias homepage like Bonus Games.. And download Xumi Script from highend3d.com.
Maya have alot more funktions then Max Meshtools if you just download all the scripts and it works alot better.

I never said that meshtools were not good, or useful. They just don't sound very elegant. If you have to select the edges to split them why weren't the tools writen so that you split them as you select them? Divide and connect bieng seperate operations is kinda clunky as well. Not picking on the quality of the tools, just the UI.

well, because there's more than one option for connect. You can connect with 1, 2 or 3, so you cant connect when you select the edges cause you wouldn't have that option. Divide and connect are two different operations.
