Hi everyone, thought I'd start one of these threads of my own. I've been drawing more often recently in hope of improving on my animation skills. I've always loved drawing but was never really good at it so hopefully by posting here I can get valuable critiques! I'll try to update as often as I can. Thanks for looking :)

All sketches were done with reference.

Welcome aboard! :) Despite your self deprecation I think that you actually have some very solid drawing skills. :) As an animator, you're probably already aware of the teaching material of Glenn Vilppu:
If not, definitely pick up his 'Drawing Manual' and perhaps a few of his DVDs. Someone's thread which you would be interested in is razz, who has done some lovely drawings from Vilppu's DVDs:
Anatomy Thread of razz (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=352287)
Also I would recommend looking into Burne Hogarth's (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/002-5875491-5408023?redirect=true&platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=Burne+Hogarth&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go) books. Hogarth breaks down structure in an extremely clear way ~ I don't think that people should draw in his style, but he's brilliant at simplifying complex forms into simpler shapes.
Are the zoo pictures from life? Of course as an animator, you'll want to draw a lot from life, people, animals at the zoo, etc. Do you have access to live figure drawings sessions? Life drawing is really essential for an up and coming animator. :) Looking forward to seeing much more of your work! :)

Hey Peter, nice studies. :) I really like the first pic, as well as the action poses. Nice job on the animals, too. We should get that sketch group organised some time soon. :p

Excellent start here. The only thing I could offer is to maybe pay alittle more attention to the shading. Try and be more precise. It looks like you smudge it quite a bit which flattens out the form. Otherwise keep at it and welcome to family : )

Rebeccak - Thanks for the links and tips and for the kind words! Part of my inspiration to start drawing again was due to the buzz you and others have created on cgtalk so thanks for that :) The animal drawings were done with picture references...actually all of them are (except the hands maybe). I'm not in any life drawing sessions at the moment but I'm pretty sure there are some around here...I'll ask around!
LoTekk - Hey! Thanks man :) Yeah we really should. I recently got a new sketchbook..eager to fill it up. How bout this weekend? Or sometime next week? The zoo would be good on a weekday cos there'll be lesser ppl.
se7en-z3r0 - Thanks! Yeah I know my shading needs a lot of work. I've known this since yrs ago but never really got the technique down and I never practised as much as I should. Hopefully I'll be able to change that now :D

You're very good with posing - particularly important for an animator - I think you've got that one nailed :)
