View Full Version : weird surface when importing step

hey, does anybody know how to properly import step files into maya. I need to render using mental ray, but when I try I get really strange surface tessellation and some of the faces look as if the normals are pointing the wrong way (I've checked the display and they're fine). This only happens when I use mental ray so it's gotta be something in the globals right or att editor right?
Any advice appreciated
Cheers

HI Jan,

I would reco the following:

-1: check your normals again (step import does do weird thing with that, my experiance so far with it, try "set to face and conform")
-2: shader groop might be wonrgly attached and render black...select your geometry and reassign the shader to it and test it again.
