Hey there,

‘Warhammer: Mark of Chaos’ is one of those absorbing games that draws the player into a world chock full of legend, fiery battles and gore. I asked Gabor Marinov and the crew at DIGIC about how they pulled the massive visuals together for this cinematic.

The animation and direction of this cinematic isn't 100% but there's some really cool blendshapes in there, very nice texturing and modeling, I really like these things, hope to work on cinematics one day... would be cool, thanks for the article btw!

The animation is really, really well done. I don't really like world of Warhammer, but this is cool. So, the anim is ok, but the story is as stupid as it can only be. I don't mean only this anim I mean the whole game... And I don't think that it's going to be better in Mark of chaos. So, the anim is excelent, but it didn't convince me to play the game.

Well im not sure what your talking about. Warhammer has plenty of good story behind it. I fell in love with the table top game and then the story lines. I think the only reason it hasn't taken off is its lack of advertisment. as far as the trailer goes, i think its great gives you that woah i want to see more feeling.

I really liked it!
I have just one problem and it really bugs me when I watch it....
He has huge hands, they are a rather large % out of proportion. it seems like a bit of a strange thing to have over looked production wise (is it on purpose?), my eye just goes straight to them each time and distracts me from an otherwise great animation.
my 2 cents

The best game cinematic I have seen this year, from the tempo, sound design, lighting, textures, animation, camera moves and final comp.

Only crits would be on the lip synch when the main paladin / hero says his line before they charge (I think it was "for the empire".) , it looked a bit off but that could of been the quicktime playback/compression, and if the trees were supposed to be smoldering , maybe a particle pass of ash and sparks gently difting off a few. Lastly a slight broken up reflection pass on the bad guys armor seemed to be missing.

Really solid work and thanks for sharing!

I'm sure the 13 year old boys will love it, and perhaps even get a palatable fantasy primer on Iraq & the Middle East:
It has been a long and bloody year since the end of the Great War. While the emperor has claimed victory the peace that so many heroes gave their lives for has not settled on the land.

Talk about wringing the last drops out of a genre.

oh,yeah ,when i saw this cinematic for the first time i noticed this issue but after reading this article i feel better about that.....

"We had to change proportions and shape in order to avoid the “living dead” appearance that would take away the control of the audience’s feelings from us."

WOW This is a beatifull cinematic, I have seen a couple of times and every time that I see I found new details. Incredible work !!!.

Only one this that look to me not so good, and is the final of the story. This final remenber me to a Warcraft in where a orc hit the grown with his hammer and run again is enemy BTW very similar in design to the big monster of the cinematic, mainly in the head. This is the only critic.

But for me is a very, very tecnical and artistical good work. Brilliant !!!

I love the animation since I first saw the E3-video on some game magazine. I even had it downloaded on my iPod to see it whenever I want to.

This is one of the best animations I ever saw! Keep on working like that and you'll be our superheros Digic Pictures.

Amazing. For me it captured a small slice of the Warhammer world and I believed every second of it. Amazing work. Congrats guys.

I am looking forward to the game but I wish GW would just bring out a simple conversion from the table top game. Im talking about having a points cost for your army....choosing the units you want, heros, etc.. then fighting with either an A.I. opponent or going online with it. Add in a customizable painting section like the one in 40k Dawn of War and you would have a winning game. Sure make a small campaign section if you like but give us the option of making the army we want and battling WITHOUT all the resource collection stuff. :(

All I want is a complete conversion from the tabletop game onto the PC...nothing more. Ahhh tis a dream.

Gone a bit off track but anyway....Awesome work on the cinematic!

I really like the art specially the modelling, somehow their creatures make me think of Bay Raitt's work. Their new Goblins look absolutely incredible on the screenshots.
Nice animation on the trailer.

But generally speaking I think the whole Warhammer thing seems to have a somewhat "dark" and violent appeal. Nothing wrong with that, except that I much prefer Blizzard's humoured approach, it probably reaches a wider audience too.

I'd guess Warhammer has higher PG rating that WoW?

Any case truly spectacular :)

Talk about wringing the last drops out of a genre.

what and older people won't?

whats with the iraq and middle esast jib? not like there isn't alot of other games that has fallen in this type of mood.

this game if you know anything about it has been around for a long time.

the table top has been around alot longer than any of the pc games like warcraft.

the game is dark, very dark and bleak if you play it. all the stories behind it is very dark, very little to no humor here.

the big reason there isn't alot of coverage on the game itself is mainly b/c it is based mainly out of the uk. well that and that it is a table top game.

bonus2003
08-07-2006, 02:41 PM
I agree this has nothing to do with iraq or any of the current wars going on right now. This is a fantasy game! Go look at ghost recon or something else like that(dont know if thats related to either war but at least its in the right genre) if your into that. As far as Warhammer goes this has been around since the late 70's maybe 80' 81. Both the futuristic versions and the fantasy one is set in a desperate universe. There is very little to be happy about where the human race is in either time/place, but thats the appeal of it. What is better than trying to over come overwhelming odds? Personally that was the draw for me was that the stories didn't have a happy ending and evil/dark forces almost always had the upper hand. The fact that you have to fight tooth and nail just to survive is fun for me. might not be for everyone and thats why it hasn't exploded, personally i just think it is their lack of advertisement.
