Try the interchange format .FBX in Kaydara at . www.kaydara.com
it supports Maya and XSI, but I cant seem to load it up in maya, pherhaps you have better luck.
get the dotXSI exporter from www.edhariss.com and then export as dotxsi from xsi and import in maya using the plugin. you'll probably have to fix the normals, but that ain't hard.

can anybody load up the .fbx plugin in maya?
i cant believe they would release a plugin that simply doesnt load. :annoyed:

I had a similar problem, Maya simply refused to load the plugin. It just stopped working and I had to Kill the app.
I solved it by simply moving the plugin to another folder (in my C:/Documents and settings/.... folder). Then it worked just fine!
(In my case I had a system crash earlier and had to reinstall win2000. I was after that I got this problem.)
Try to move itand se if it works.

bjarneheden: What version of Maya are you using?

yeah, ive tried loading the plugin from the installed dir of the plugin (as well as the automatically installed file) but they both hang the same way. i also tried unloading other plugins to see if there was a conflict but that also didnt work :(

Sorry for the confusion, it seems that this version of the Maya FBX Plugin had a problem with freezing Maya up in certain installations.
There is a new and improved plugin available here:
http://www.kaydara.com/support/download/index.php?filename=plugins
If you are running an older version of the plugins, it is strongly recommended to update to the newest version.
