With an Opteron-based setup, you can run multiple processors:)

Valkyrien: Not quite. Its an Opteron 152

As for the OP:
The Athlon64 X2 is better. At least for rendering. If that is your main goal, then get the X2, it is a dual core CPU. The Opteron 152, is a 2.6GHz part, while the Athlon64 X2 4800+ is a 2.4GHz part, the difference in GHz isn't that big between the CPUs, but since the X2 is dual core and the 152 is not (nor can it be plugged into a dual socket motherboard) the X2 is the way to go.

If you were talking about an Opteron 180 and up, it would be different.

Of course you could also consider Intel's Core 2 Duo, to be released July 27...

Indeed, AMD's prices cuts are quoted to be "Competative with Intel's Price/Performance ratio"

Which means we can see drops by as much as 50% in AMD's lineup. Of course, its yet to be seen if this is going to be the case...

Word to the wise? Dont buy a computer this month ;P

Oh geez, talk about your antiques! Didn't even know they still SOLD those :)

Okay, so they do. I've just gotten very used to the idea of Opterons as Muti-processor-capable chips :p
