I don't think this is possible.

However I hope someone out there can prove me wrong :D

well i think it can, all i have to do is be able to track in a activex windows the viewport redraws. but only if it was that simple.
I was wondering if it would be possible to stick a opengl window in a activex control. i know that there are some activex controls that allow this but how do i make it track max´s viewport?

here is what i got from discreet knowledge base :
Topic: [500431] Free-floating viewport (2 of 2), Read 133 times Conf: Viewport Extenders (http://sparks.discreet.com/knowledgebase/public/support/sparks_legacy_wb/106root.htm) From: Developer Consulting (Discreet) ktx_int@ktx.com Date: Thursday, September 16, 1999 08:18 AM Hi Joel,

Well, technically you can, but its not trivial. You would have to create a new instance of a graphics window and keep it updated off the back of Viewport Redraw callbacks. All the drawing and setup would have to be done by your plugin though - there is no way to 'harness' the functionality of an existing viewport at the moment..
