View Full Version : set driven keys
I just finished to set the driven keys for my dragon hand (fist etc...)
is it possible to copy these keys to the left hand?
the driver is a custom attribute on my hand control shape

Hey,
As far as I know, there is no direct way to do this. The names of all the joints are different and angles will probably be different as well, so I doubt you can do this. Maybe with a pretty fancy mel script you might be able to, but as far as I know, its easier to just redo it manually. Sorry!

How about instead of trying to duplicate the attributes to the other hand, you unparent the left hand and hide or delete the chain, duplicate the right hand and move it over the the left hand position, parent it to the left shoulder and rename. Test to make sure it works. I've done it and it works for me.

I'm guessing that to have this work, you'd have to scale everything to -100% to get the flipped values. Or I may be talking out of my ass.

Well, there is actually a way to copy SDKs. But you better make sure everything you want to copy from one side to the other is exactly the same before you start (especially rotation axises).
Here´s what I´d do: take the the driver and driven objects and bring up the hypergraph and show input/output connections. Here you can see that the driver object´s driving attribute is connected to an animation node, which is in turn connected to the driven objects´ attributes. (This is what I love about this software, BTW.) So all you need to do is make a mirrored attribute of the driving attribute (say, left hand-> right hand). Then copy the SDK animation node, connect the new driving attribute to its input, connect its output to the appropriate joints or whatever on the mirrored side.
You could write a little script to automate this. Should be quite easy.
