Hello, this is my first thread here on CGTalk and it is also my first real attempt at digital painting. I used to use the Pen Tool in Photoshop a lot before and pumped out various vector-style of art. But since I want to become a Concept Designer for a games company some day I decided I should learn digital painting asap.

Now before you look at my picture, I have to explain some things:

The jungle scene WAS painted by me entirely BUT I used this guy's video tutorial on how to paint a jungle scene as a huge reference. http://www.area-56.de/_area56_data/images/tutorials/jungle_big.jpg

I admit my jungle looks very similar but I did switch the light position to make it a bit tougher to paint, and besides I only did this painting to practise and learn digital painting. And it helped a lot :) Thank you area-56 person :)

Also, instead of an elephant with an indian boy on it, I decided to do something differently so I glanced at my shelf and saw the King Kong DVD and that's when I decided I'm going to paint King Kong into it! :D

Some technical stuff:
Software: Photoshop CS2
Tablet: Wacom Graphire 3.0
Time Taken: A couple of hours
Layers: 3 (jungle, king kong and his shadow)

Also, I tinkered with the Levels a bit but I'm not sure if it's a change for the better, please help:

Critique and Comments are appreciated! :D

King Kong looks a little small……

I would try to bounce some blue, green, brown light over the monkey, right now it feels like hes not "in" there... he doesnt look big either, perspective problems i think. Keep at it!

Like Christian223 said, try to add some green shadows to make him blend in more.

Also, I think it would help you with your perspective if you had trees ( may be a mountain ??) behind him. Right now it looks like he is sitting on the edge of a cliff:). Eventually you will probably need more detail to make his fur more realistic, but for now I would focus on the perspective. Keep going : )
