I have revised the idea of the demon 'Lucifer's' head... Want to stear away from the traditional Rams head to go more for a characterised version. Hope you agree im going in a better direction than the one I started out on :)

I like very much your concept sketch, IMHO you could use the second head but withe ramīs horns (they look more devilish than the cow ones), nice drawings!

Thanks for the feed back regarding using the Rams horns with the revised head design, sounds good. Will experiment alittle with the idea n see what i come up with. Thanks for the advice, much apreciated. Here is the next batch of images for your viewing hope ya all like where its going :) All responces good & bad are appreciated

alright damnit, here comes the feedback!!
Wow absolutelly amazing, cant wait to see more bye!
good enough for you :wip: , j/k, alright this is what I see,
first off I love your second sketch of your characters head, thing is that the character I see you modeling is a bit skinny for that big guys neck and face, my suggestion to you is, if you want to make him scary, beef him up. you dont have to over do it, but think in 3d and not 2d, were given the chance to give depth to a flat character, give him definiition, scale him a bit and bring his body out, also, great big giant legs at the end to hold up his body would be great too, extremes can turn a good model into a great model, you just have to make sure they fit. Great start though, love the idea!!!!

Thanks man awesone feedback, thats the sort of stuff I am after. Already thought bout beefing it up abit, though after looking at some of the other entry ideas decided it would probably too closely resemble other ideas people here have had (but may need to once I create the wings). I agree that head does look too blocky for the body from the image, but I think this is a little missleading as the under neck though musclebound looking in the image is actually going to be (hopefully) more along the lines of loose skin. The end result should be a balanced character (again hopefully) :) Thanks again for the feedback, keep it comming.

Ok, first off the calves are just plain inspiring. My personal favorite part :)
second, I kinda like the goat horns :) I do agree and think that the short ones are a bit meaner looking though.
third, keep your ass movin. ;) I wanna see more

Thanks all for your comments & replies. Here is the next stage of my Demon. I will be working on detailing the neck as well as adding the ears n horns to the head. Before I create the wings im planning on creating the muscle structure on the back that would be needed to mount them. Hope to have that much done by the end of Sunday :D Well, heres the latest.

Modeling is great!! Maybe make him squat a bit with his knees under his head for more balance? That head is really great!

Wraith
03-17-2002, 12:59 AM
Hey thanks man... When hes done n dusted im going to rig him up with a skeleton n pose him. The origional concept shows the most likely pose on a platto pedistal. This pose is purely for modeling purposes. If you have any suggestions as to how I can demonstrate his power id appreciate it as im banging my head on a wall with that one :(
l_farley13_l
03-17-2002, 01:13 AM
hmm . . . I think an enlargement in the knees and below with a giant hoof like the drawing (maybe even more for enphasis) will give him the look that he is stridy and able to run/jump etc. In the final position the head posistion will definitly contribute too. Hope it helps :)
see you,

Very, VERY nice !
IMO, his hands aren't demon-strating (sorry for this one, I'm a bit tired ;) ) enough his strenght . They're a bit thin for someone with such a muscle structure .
Otherwise, concerning how you can demonstrate his power, maybe if he's crouched, yelling, taken by a relatively close camera from below...
The low-angle shots are used for this kind of purpose (give an impression of strenght/power to characters) . And if, moreover, you fill the rendering space with a (relatively) close-up, chances are that he'll look impressive .
By the way, I hope to see more soon ! :wip:
Wraith
03-17-2002, 04:31 PM
Thanks guys for the comments, much appeciated... El Tonio thanks for pointing out the hands, you are right... I am not going to enlarge them or anything but they look a bit thin from the side veiw, so im going to sort that out then get cracking on finnishing the parts for the head... Dont have as much time on it today as id planned so probably have to do the back muscles tomorrow instead. Please keep your comments flowing :)

WOW : killing cow is back !!! I love it so far. It will be terrible with the horns ! Maybe more muscles ?
Wraith
03-17-2002, 08:11 PM
Hehehe, erm, im going for the horns from the second scetch as the rams horns are too big for this character... Muscles are being added to places as I detail the character... Though the end result wont be a muscle bound demon, want to stear away from that idea of a demon, just for a change. Anyway, have fixed the problem with the hands (thickened em up a bit) & have been detailing the head today so far, still missing the (short) horns...

03-17-2002, 08:18 PM
WOW - just like the sketch ! That body is a really great work. Maybe you want to make the feets somewhat bigger !? Like in the sketch...
Great model so far ! Looking forward to the finished one.

03-18-2002, 01:05 AM
He's getting there.
I don't agree about the thin hands. I'm a big fan of large chunky fingers myself and think this guys hands are a tad too delicate.
His head is mean and imposing and so is his body but the weight of the character is all in the head.
The rest is streamlined and elegant, while the head screams out for more weight elsewhere.
Maybe in the lower legs?
Big hooves along the lines of Tim Curry in Legend?
I know he looks nothing like Mignola's character, but there's something of Hellboy about this guy...
Wraith
03-18-2002, 01:23 AM
Ok, here goes... As I detail the character I will add muscle where needed. But wont modify the overall shape untill the whole thing is together. I have to add quite large muscles on the back to support the wings (which are going to dwarf the character). That is why for the time being I havent enlarged the hoofs etc. Once it is all together, then I will balance it all out. Should have most of the back done tomorrow night... Who is Hellboy? Oh & keep those comments comming in :D

Kewl head... the torso are kewl too... the fav part is the claws... looks deadly.... are you using MAX? (or XSI?)....
Wraith
03-18-2002, 03:31 AM
Facial Deluxe, here is a grab of the mesh for the head n shoulders as requested. Still needs cleaniing up in a few places but that can wait for now...
Thanks DarkSy, the hands have been modified since that last render of the full body (thickened up slightly) as the fingers were too thin from the side view... No m8, I dont use max at all. I use lightwave to create & render my meshes (IMO it has the best modeler around, but that is just my personal preference). :D

I love your character!
Awesome face and wonderful overall!. Everything fits perfectly from head to feet. I wasn't too sure about the ram horns on my w.i.p. and think you've achieved an excellent result. Hope to see more soon! keep on that great job!

03-18-2002, 04:10 AM
Who's Hellboy???
Disgraceful.
Make those shoulders wider. They're too narrow for the head when you see it from the front.
If you're going to have big muscles supporting the wings it needs to look as though it could stand up without being top heavy.
Bigger hands. Lose the long claws...they're a cliche.
Do they have manicurists in Hell or wherever?
Nails would be blunt, torn and ragged.
Put some armour, however minimal, or clothing on him/it.
You've got plenty of time...if it works keep it. If public opinion is against...lose it.
Is the jaw hinged for posing later?
(Picky aren't I?)
Teyon
03-18-2002, 04:14 AM
There is no forgiving the Hellboy thing, I agree. :)
However, I like the hands as is but in the end, it's up to you. All in all, it's looking good. Now go to a comic shop and pick up a Hellboy tradepaperback or even better, get 2! You may also want to pick up a copy of Hellboy: Odd Jobs at your local bookstore. It fits perfectly with our theme

03-18-2002, 04:47 AM
LOL, This has to be my last reply tonight as I gotta sleep... Tendemar this ones for you m8 :)
The head in the mesh image isnt as big as it apears, I grabbed it from the Perspective view instead of the front view so the shoulders seem narrower than they really are in comparison. My apologies for that, & for not knowing who Hellboy is... THat one is unforgivable, aparently, but will deffinetely look out for a copy of the comic, there is a forbidden plannet near my work ile look in on monday n see if they have it :)
I may shorten the claws in the final stages of the model, but probably wont get rid if em all together... Especially as Hell has the best manicurists anywhere :)
Already been pondering the idea of armour of sorts, plate, war torn n damaged, but thought parts of it sitting next to him as though he has just left a conflict & is removing it... but still not too sure bout it. Im kind of ballancing several ideas at the mo
Yep the jaw will be posable when i rig the skeleton... THough the inside of the mouth is unfinished as I wasnt planning of openning it for this challenge. Well thats all for tonight folks, im shattered, Thanks all for the comments n keep em comming :)
DarkSy
03-18-2002, 05:19 AM
Oh lightwave... that was my third guess!! =)... it does seem powerful since quite a few ppl here uses it.... (does it require a 3 button mouse?.... is the interface easy to use.... a lot of shortcut keys to memorize or buttons galore?....) Armours are kewl.. but it will cover up the arsome model of the body.... Love the claws... don't get rid of it please =)....
Wraith
03-18-2002, 05:27 AM
Lightwave is probably one of the easiest 3D packages to learn as it is text based n not icon based e.g the options for the lights are under the tab marked 'Lights' etc :) & Yep it is a very powerful program... As for the claws hehehe they may stay as they are, will see what the general opinion is of you all when the time comes :) Night all I really need that sleep now. More updates tomorrow night, hope to get the back muscles done to ready the body for the wings.

WOW! This thing just keeps getting better and better. I could learn a lot from you, oh master.
Keep it going. It's looking perfect.
All i can say is that you must work in the games industry! There's no doubt that you know how to model in Lightwave and you know how to radiosity render, great. Your design just lacks any new thinking or originality, long fingers, hooved feet oooooow.
Come on surely there's something far more demonic than this!:wip:

Interesting design. Good job with the modeling. I really like the design of the face. The width of the legs kind of bother me. It feels like they would break from underneath him. Hes this big diesel upper body and skinny chicken legs. It may just be a personal thing. Other than that, you have a strong model.
Keep up the good work..

I agree with some of the first posts. You should beef him up a bit. To make the head and body fit together more. But you could also go in the other direction. How about thinning out the head. Make his skull show throgh. Take away almost all the fat from the head. Like really stretched skin over an angular skull.

On a side not: you might want to beef up the muscles supporting him and his giant wings! Around the lat area I would say; a bit like a bird perhaps :) No other beefing I say!!

think...
any creature with wings like that is flying and supporting itself with its wings most of the time not vice versa. Just a thought.
I like how the anatomy is right now. Just needs some updates.
