Forgive me if this is not the proper place to post such an announcement (feel free to move it if so), but I just wanted to let anyone who might be interested know that the followup to my first book (The Game Artist's Guide to Maya) has been released! The Game Animator's Guide to Maya, as it sounds, takes a closer look at the animation part of game development and on the included CD comes with 4 fully modeled and textured characters and creatures to be rigged and animated by the user to their hearts content. Fully rigged versions are available as well for those that just want to play and not deal with the rigging process. Lots of other goodies are also included.

I hope all who are interested enjoy it. :) Link to Amazon in the sig.

Hope to see you at Siggraph!

I am sorry, very new here. Are the 2 books available at any major bookstores such as Barnes and Nobles or Borders?

was hoping to search through the contents on amazon -- but its aparently not setup for that. don't suppose you might want to make it to where potential customers can search inside the book...?

also, as the poster above me mentioned -- is this going to be in any large retailers, i.e. Barnes n Nobles, Fry's Electronics, Borders ?

I remember when you posted your futuristic cowgirl in the Maya forums some time ago, glad to see her finally put to use.

peglegpeet13 - I have seen the first book in B&N and Fry's Electronics, so I imagine this new one will hopefully also be there. It's a bit of a niche subject, so I imagine smaller stores will need to special order it.

amannin - I'll see about asking my publisher about it. They're the ones who control that kind of thing. I remember when the first book was out they displayed one of the chapters online, but my publisher was bought by another company and I think they took it offline.

Hope you like it! If you do, feel free to post me up a review at Amazon or similar sites. I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

Question, it says there are files for Maya PLE, but does it have files for those of us with access to a full version of Maya?

I remember the first one was for the "new to maya" type with a few intermediate tools added in. If you are wanting to learn about animating and rigging for games then this book wont dissapoint. The first one was very in depth and covered a broad range.

Way to go Mike - hope this one does as well as the last.

DCHAD - Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy it!

noisewar - The CD actually has standard .ma files. The Maya PLE is capable of opening standard Maya files but the files saved *from* PLE are a special format not able to be opened in the full version of Maya. So, to put it simply, yes, the files on the CD are able to be opened in the full version of Maya as well as the PLE.

mttjss - Thanks so much! :) I really appreciate it!

Cool, just ordered both your titles, looking forward to getting them.
They seem pretty interesting from the index.

Only thing is The Game Artist's Guide to Maya is delayed by Amazon for some reason
