First off, what program are you using? HOW shiny and reflective have you made it, and where are the lights?

yeah, you need some lights if you want reflection, even I know that!!!!

im using maya 4.5 and using the gi_joe mel script for lighting. the lighting looks fine for all the other parts of the drums, but the cymbals im having trouble with. right now my shader has the gold color, a diffuse of .8, a specularity all the way at white, and reflectivity at 1. i think it might be because i just have them by themselves w/o any environment or anything. but even so, shouldn't it give off some shite? thanks guys, and sorry if im being confusing.

Well I haven't sat behind a drum set in years, but from what I remember, cymbals are quite bumpy, and they have concentric circular grooves... add a bump map that has these concentric circles and bumps, and it'll be sure to pick up more of an interesting specular reflection. It's hard to tell why you're not seeing any specular at all in your shots, but it's dependant on the angles between your camera, the surface, and the lights... Sorry if that doesn't help at all, it's hard to tell what to suggest from this one shot.
