View Full Version : i got unwanted artifacts in a bevel. any suggestions ?
|2 e |3 o o t 03-13-2002, 03:46 PM Why am I getting unwanted artifacts as seen in picture which I’ve circle ? I use the bevel profile modifier to produce this object with the target bevel profile (small line) interpolation set to 4 steps and the logo profile set to 16 steps. Is this a good model ? Btw, I used Max 4 for this.

see the tight corner which is rounded off with an additional spline on the end of the letter "e" ? why it only happened here and not other tight corners ?

this is the problem I was talking about.
Should I just weld the vertices in Edit Poly ?
I am just curous about how I got the artifact.

I think you can resolve your problem before apply bevel modifier to the spline making a little fillet in the vertex corner that you have the problem.

gee thanks for ur idea luigi, but making a little fillet means adding 2 extra vertices at the corner is it ?
sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Well no exactly:
if you make fillet you will add to extra vertex but the important is that you will add 6 segments between the vertexs.
For extrude an bevel the most important thing are the segment that the are between vertexs.
the previous work with the spline is the most important in that case.
Sorry for my bad english.

Thanks luigi for the suggestion, but performing a fillet at vertex level splits corner of the selected vertex to 2 smooth vertices, changing the sharp corner to a smooth curve but that doesn't help.
I noticed that I overlooked the Bevel Profile modifier settings when I turned on the Keep Lines From Crossing option. It's because the full bevel will intersect at that place. So I just tweak the Bevel Profile gizmo to get a slightly smaller bevel, works like a charm.
Again, appreciate ur input. :D
Cheers !!!
