Original post:

Okay, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and make a contribution to this evergrowing bestiary of Middle Earth.
:bounce:

The Robbyts.

Around the outskirts of Mirkwood, south of the river Celduin lies the grassland homeplains of the Robbyts. These vicious little creatures move at night, and rest in holes underground during the day. Robbyts will ambush any unsuspecting traveller going through their lands if they can, and whatever loot they get hold of they will hide, down inside their holes. Robbyts are skilled with the bow, and have laid silent many sleeping men with a rain of arrows in the dark. Legends tell of the vast treasure of the Old King Robbyt somewhere near East Bight, and many men have ventured to Mirkwood in search of the treasure, to never be heard from again.

Oh, and here's the accompanying napkin doodle :)

I'm thinking that he might need some cloak.. maybe a hood with holes for his ears, and maybe some other gear. We'll see.

Is this guy related in any way to the killer bunny in Monty Pythons Quest For The Holy Grail? :D

Umm, no. (did that one have horns as well?)
I just figured in general that we don't see violent bunnies often enough.

I couldn't agree more! Good luck with the challenge!

i think there's probably a very good reason we dont see bunnies with horns.........we eat them!!!!What would be the use for " demon bunnies" ?

I sure u can come up with something better than bunnies....keep your ideas coming....u can do it

Started on the head. Going slow, making sure there are no offending tri-faces anywhere. Head reminds me a bit of Vader's helmet right now :D

Leigh:

Hunkasaurus: I can imagine lots of uses for a demon bunny.

Had some problems figuring out how the mouth should be. Ear shape and size insisted on looking weird too. He looks a bit too much like Bugs bunny now,:annoyed: but hopefully the body will counter that a bit when I get that in place..

Could really use some suggestions on how to make him look more evil and sinister..

There really should be some kind of prize for silliest challenge contribution. Just imagine this character sitting next to the Balrog.

don't sit him too close... his fur might get singed...

I think we can all stop with our trys at the challenge... The Robbyt is going to take the cake....well, it takes my cake anyway!!

That would be funny seeing it sitting next to the Balrog, the Balrog would be in shock,a bunny with violence in mind, how original.

Great concept. I love it when cute and seemingly harmless animals go bad.

Head's more or less done. Time to start on the body. Not sure yet in what pose he would look the most menacing.
Suggestions welcome.

Anyway, here's the head:

I haven't had any time to work on him these past days but luckily I have some coming up now. Anyway, here's an update. Just started to block out his body.
Is it too small? Crits appreciated as always. :bounce:

Wow, I'm impressed to see that you have been coming along without any support from people :)
It is sad that no one has been commenting on your thread

I think the bunny is coming along well, the only problem is that it is very squarish. You need to round the whole thing out a little more :)
At the moment, it is almost looking robot-like, which generally isn't a bad thing, except when it is for a Middle Earth challenge ;)

So, just round the edges out a little, make it look deceptively cuddly

Cool idea Starv :D BUNNIES!!!! His name reminds me of that old playstation game where you played a robot rabbit and jumped all over the place...i forgot the name of it though. Good times, good times. I think a hood would look really cool on him, but then it would cover up those cool little horns so maybe not. Maybe a hooded cloak, but with the hood off? I agree with Leigh that he is looking very square which kind of causes it to lose that juxtiposistion of the soft cuddly bunny with a thirst for blood :) Keep it up

Keep at it bud, and as Leigh said you really have to round out your model more, he's way to squarish, especially for a bunny ;). As for hands, this tut might help ya

Wow! Look! People! : ) Hellooo guys. :wavey:

Leigh:

Hmm. About him being square, you mean mostly his head right? I'm going to try to round it out some more. Thanks for pointing it out to me. His head is practically flat too! hehe : )
I think maybe his ears could be placed farther back and closer together. His horns could point more out to the side too come to think about it. I had a small revelation about the horns just a couple of hours ago as I turned on the tv to check out how Angel and the gang was doing against that bad demon they've been battling lately when I 'noticed' Lorne

http://www.just-b.co.uk/host/pic1.jpg.

Now those are the kind of horns I need.

Speaking of the picture of Lorne, look at those evil eyes. I need to work on the eyes a bit. The robbyt needs a really evil expression. His mouth needs more of a snarling look to it, and I think more bigger and sharper teeth also are in order here. :-P

Rye:

Great idea! He needs a hood. I'm thinking he could have a hood that's kinda not covering the horns entirely. With holes in the back of it so his ears can stick out.

Edit: offcourse! Doh! Why didn't I think of this!? My head must not have been working properly lately. ; )

Lildragon:

Ah! Excellent hand tutorial. That really helped. Thanks : )

Hm. wow. These feedbacks really got my imagination started here. Thanks a million!

Now I've really got some modelling to do here..

This was my first organic character, and I really learned a lot in this challenge, even though I didn't manage to finish texturing him in time. I'm almost done with unwrapping his skin, (which turned out to be trickier than I had thought to begin with) so I might finalize that just to sort of finish what I've started.

Previously I've only modelled stiff visualization and effects stuff, so it was a lot of fun to try my hands on something more organic. It was also my first experience with box-modelling a polymesh in max. I tried keeping to the "rules" regarding edgeloops and such and there is actually not a single 5- or 3-sided polygon anywhere on this model, it's all 4 edged polygons. (Ok, so I might have gone a bit overboard in that sense, and some places I might have been overly creative in finding ways to avoid tri's)

Anyway, when I first doodled down the sketch for this character I wasn't really actually planing to enter the challenge, I just played with the idea, and then fell for the temptation and joined. The character was actually a bit too cartoonish to ever just blend in seamlessly next to Gollum to begin with, but I decided I'd see it though anyway.

Thanks to the cgtalk community for being such an awesome resource for learning 3d stuff, and also for being such a great place to get inspired, or to just goof off in the general discussions. Keep it up guys!

So anyway, when does the next challenge start? :bounce:

come on, stop being too busy, and let me submit this post now.. *taps thumbs below space*
