I've been thinking about this lately too, mostly that is is possible to get a job at small game company being ONLY a modeler...

But all I can say is that knowing how to model, texture and animate won't do any harm atleast ;)

At the begining you should know a bit of everything and then specialice in modeling ( or whatever you wanna do ), 'cos it'll be quite usefull to know what are you talkin about when you try to comunicate with the animator, or texturer... if you don't have any idea what are they talking about you'll hardly will be able to explain them what you want or what you need. ( or what they need, if it's the opposite ).

You DO need to know everything, including animation basics. You certainly don't need to be a master at everything, but it's just not done when you don't know what the hell your team members are talking about when it comes to project planning.

Oh, I just noticed fab said the same thing, lol! But anyway, the two things that matter the most are:
- deadlines
- team work

You at least need to have a clue how not to make life harder for the next one 'in line'. If you create a great model in no time and it turns out it's hell to use for the texture and animation artists, it's no use. You'll be on time and they'll be working nights ;)

Know what I mean ? If you know how to do low poly models that are easy to texture, you'd be very usefull :)
