View Full Version : Audi S3
JWRodegher 07-12-2006, 09:04 PM Hi guys. As a result of no deadlines in the las three days I got to model the car that's gonna race my bmw (the one I crashed with an all mighty box :scream: ). It is an Audi S3. I'm going to replace this rimms with another ones cause this ones look really ugly IMO (even if they are the originals). Annyway, still got the inside to do, some details here and there, and the renders and materials are just preview. Nothing fancy actually. Well, here goes the model:

Comments and crits, always welcome! Cheers!

Ok, hereīs another render but now with the right pixel proportion, the other one seemed way too tall.
So letīs see now...

ok, thatīs better, here with the bigger image, and the reflections i do see that the curvature does break from the side, above the wheel, to the hood. Nice way to check that is zebra test. know how to do it? well just in case creat half a cilinder around the car (making it like a cilinder shaped room) with the normals pointing downwards, then apply full reflectivity tu the car with no falloff. map the cilinder with black and white stripes, goinf lengthwise or widthwise (or try both) if the reflections of the stripes flow along the shape without any sudden changes or breaks, then the curvature of the surface is correct. I guess you knew that, but just wanted to save time in case i had to post again :P.
Does look nice, despite that. the only thing that really disturbs me, are the rimms, they seem to be sticking out when they shouldnīt.

Not bad at all. I think the car looks a bit toy-like, mainly because the sides of the car are too straight. It makes the car look a bit too tall. Have a look at some pictures of a real a3 and you'll see the sides are slightly more curved.
Overall I think the proportions of the car are about right. With some modifications the car can look real good.

I think that the lack of the details in the door arenīt helping at all. It does make it look way too tall thatīs true. Iīll keep working on it.
Hereīs a wire!

this shader is holding this model back you need a better shader to take this to the next level

Ok, I've been working on the shader in the last hours, I'll show something later.
I think I'll be starting on the interior of the car after I get a decent shader!
Thanks for stoping by and comment!

Nice work.
This picture is missing quite some contrast. Also the bump on the walls is too high, you could smooth/tessellate them and use a displacement map?
Furthermore, I don't think the glass material is meant to have the 'carpaint' spots on it.
Your render seems a bit blurred. If you're on 3dsmax, try the 'catmull-rom' filter.
Good luck with your work

I think the car is beautifully made but one thing that gripes me is how the wheels stick out. try aligning it or maybe even tuck it a little inside the fenderwell.

Thanx for the suggestions guys.
Bot13, Iīm not on max and I really canīt spot that blurred effect on the render (maybe I saw to many times already). I have the bump issue first on my list of things to do next! And Iīll check the glass shader to see why it has those spots. Thank you!
Jerobi, Iīll see how it looks with the wheels aligned, thanks for the kind comment! :D
Cheers!
Updates coming soon.
