View Full Version : particles and rigid bodies
(B-HOLM) 01-17-2003, 06:22 PM I just found out that I could set particle collision for active/passive rigid bodies :)
The bad thing though is that when I tick the particle collision in the settings box then it doesn't work. This is what I do:
I make a nurbs plane and scale etc.
Then I make a particle emitter to emit particles.
I set it to spray them directional.
And last but not least I press the play button.
But when I try this then nothing happens, the particles just go through the plane.
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

hi (B-HOLM)
when you make your palne[obj] make it an active rigid body
1.mark the plane > make collide
2.go to window >relationship editors >dynamic relationship
3.pick your particals [no the emitter
4.mark collisions
5.pick your plane[obj] 6.in the window
thats it

I don't want them to collide like that...
I want some particles to hit the plane and then the plane fly out of the scene...
hope I made myself clear :)

try linking the plane and the partical object in the dynamic relationships editor (window---relationship editors-----dynamic relationships editor) click the collisions button on the top of the right hand column. you shouldbe able to highlight the partical object and nurbs plane there. this will makethe particals collide with the plane...
in orderto make the particals effect the planes position, you may need to makethe plane an active rigid body (try with it passive as well in not 100% sure). and in its attribute editor, choose "partical collision" under its rigid body node.
hope that helped..

Sedric's instructions should get you where you need to go.
One of the examples in MEL Scripting for Maya Animators (Chapter 17, Example 4) covers exactly this ground also. I don't know whether it's much help without the book, but if you're familiar enough with MEL to read the code without much explanation you might try downloading the scripts from the book at www.melscripting.com and looking through our example code...
