Hi everybody !

I'm in for this challenge with a kind of... well... a thing .

As for ents, this race lives away from civilization as it doesn't feel concerned by anything else than itself .
As it's a mythical race, a lot of adventurers have try to find it in some old lost forest . Those who made it didn't lived long enough to make a good story out of it .
Some of the creatures (the warriors) wear armors made of pieces taken from their dead ennemis .

Here's a concept sketch . :wip:

Hey i like his face, but the pose makes it look like his arms would collapse..

What a weird creature.
It kinda feels wrong - the arms are out of place, that and his back is to bent. I think he'll have great trouble breathing.

I would either;
make him stand up straight and keep the arms.
OR
Change his arms with the front legs of a lion(or whatever creature the hind legs came from) and keep him a quadriped.

I think it would look more natural (haha) if you arched the back up a bit.

Disturbing concept! I look forward to seeing its fruitation

U yeah...
That face looks very...hmm... aristocratic
But that body.... You should make other posture... something like centaurs, or human posture with that lions legs.
I think that this creature should be fast, so I prefer centaurs style with lions legs :buttrock:

And sorry for the lack of update !

Many of you point at the strange pose and/or his bad anatomy...
Well, I suppose my drawing skills are the reason for this bad feeling you have . I didn't spend much time on my perspective, and I can see a lot of problems with it right now .

[explanation of the concept] (you can skip if you're in a hurry... ;) )

At the beginning, I wanted to create a centaur-like creature, but wished to go beyond the traditionnal image everybody has . My idea was this kind of 50/50 mix with upper body from one, and lower from the other .
The problem was that he has to use his arms and hands in a human way (tools, weapons, ...), so he would have to stand up for a variety of actions . In this case, the horse legs were a way too "fragile" to support such a weight too long .
That's why his lower body became more of a lion than a horse (larger feet and muscles) .
But then, a second (and third) problem occured : for esthetical reasons, I wanted his legs to be as long as his upper body when standing up, to avoid a ridiculous chimp-style proportion .
That's why his back is sooo bent : longer-than-usual legs !!
The last problem is that he is supposed to be able to run in a four legs position : his arms and chest got to be very muscled, but got to remain in the good "proportion" .

[/explanation of the concept]

So, the concept sketch may seem wacked/bad, but I'm gonna model it on this basis and tweak it until he looks as believable as possible .

Here's my first wip for this model . It's the first time I use Maya (usually use Lightwave and Max), so it will probably take some time at first to acheive my goals .

And thanks to all of you for your interest and feed-back !!

Small update... Still at low-poly level .
Maya is really interesting to work with . I'm at the moment I wish I could have keyboard shortcuts instead of icons or marking menu : good sign, I'm getting faster !!

  .. but iŽll go with the others.. you may need to bend is back the other way around.. to be more balanced..

What, what, what ?

You want to go against my artistic vision !? :D

Ok, I give up : you're so numerous to think he has a prob with his back, that I'll try both postures (even if I'm sure I'm right ! ;) ) .

Thanks for the feedback

Let's go back to work :buttrock:

It would just be more natural to have the back bent in upward fashion - if even only slightly. Model is taking shape nicely!

Still got a lot of tweaking and smoothing to do, but as my character is still naked, I'm gonna see what parts need work after dressed up .
