I started this piece a month or so ago, originally intending it to be high fantasy, then deciding to take a slightly different tack and use it as a piece with which to tackle a more industrial environment, something I've never tried before. Something that petrifies me as it's all straight lines and subtle colour blending and interesting lighting.

The photos are a couple of the ones I'll be using as reference for colour and lighting, as I'd like to keep those kind of tones. I've not settled on light direction definitely yet, so any thoughts on that, or the composition are welcome.

Elaborating on lighting and hinting at a background:

references looked up:

More elaboration on background after reference:

The pose for the people was loosely referenced from one of the "lovers pack" photos from Lockstock (http://lockstock.deviantart.com/) and Cobwebstock (http://cobweb-stock.deviantart.com/) over on Deviant.

I'm sure it will be just splendid. I'm not going to say anything about it right now - just going to watch the progress :)

I like the design. It's a cool concept. I also like the industrial background alot. I think it's a better idea than a fantasy background. It just makes it a bit more interesting and original. The guys feet look a little large, but that might be a style thing.

Gitte thanks, I'm sorta itching to see how it turns out myself.. :D
Feyd that was sorta my plan, make it a little unusual and tackle some of my weaker areas in one go. And I've had such problems trying to get his anatomy right... the feet/boots do definitely need some work, I've a feeling their legs are a bit on the long side... It'll help once I get some solidity in with colour I think
Michael Thanks! I'm loathe to get rid her spokey arm thingy, but my gut instinct says you're probably right as that will solidy the two beings into geometircal shapes... I'll try both as I'm laying down colour.
Squib Don't beat about the bush now... yeah, the feet have given me such a headache trying to get their proportions right and get them to sit on the platform properly... will try to fix it as I add colour, and also look up some decent reference of those kind of boots.

The composition is top notch, still too early for critiques at this point; But I like what I see so far, keep it up.

j§\0\0\0posi¦ so far. I'm interested in seeing how you're going to handle your colour.

Are your figures intentionally that tall? :)

About the girl's spikey bracelet: it does look good; perhaps you could turn it into some sort of shoulderpiece to keep its effect after you've positioned her arm under the angel's (I also think it'd be better off like that).
