Hi guys.
Just been following the links and things that jeremyhardin provided about the 'free fluid solution (in Blender)' thread from the LW forum.
I just wanted to say that I'm pretty blown away with my experience with Blender thus far. For a free piece of software it just boggles the mind how people managed to contruct an app with a level of functionality that rivals commercial apps.
I'm primarily a LW user, so the GUI just really gets my blood pumping :)
After the fluids I thought I'd randomly take a look to see if there were any UV editing tools that could help me out, as LWs are in need of some work, and yet again an amazing wealth of features greeted me.
The only thing that I can't seem to get my head around currently is the shading and texturing, but hey.

So yeah, a bit of a pointless thread for sure, but I just felt the need to say thanks to anyone involved. Seriously, seriously impressed here chaps.

Keep looking back to blender.org, 2.42 is just around the corner and should be released in a week or so. It might cover even more needs you might have.
Look at the release log:

Anti-distinctlymintly (great nick! :p )

Have the same opinion. C4D is my main tool, but Blender is great to have on the side. If or when it gets true n-gons, it will definitely become harder to pick which app to boot. :D

Thanks paintbox :) The good things is that you dont have to drop an app - if thats what you meant by 'boot'. It's free! what a feeling.

I'm still having a little trouble with the surfacing. I guess I just might be to used to the Lightwave way of doing things, which I think is great by the way - especially the new nodes in 9. Hopefully, I'll get my head around it soon.
Also, the GI in Yafray is quite impressive too, at least compared to LWs antiquated algorithms. How does the GI speed compare in your apps guys? If I want a Monte Carlo solution the maximum bouces will be 1. Any more and the render time just goes up too much. If I'm correct, the 'depth' setting in yafray is the bounces and I had it at 3 and it was done in several minutes.
