I made this image about a year ago.

http://www.sarnat.net/digiart/threed/robot.jpg

Some of you have probably seen this before. It was a project that sort of evolved out of being bored at home for a few weeks. I made a pair of robo legs and it got me motivated to make a whole bot. Ended up taking a few months to complete.

Max 3.1 with DirtyReyes, Brazil render. Texturing in photoshop.

it is indeed very nice.. but as you've called it a "Big Worker Robot" i was expecting more dents and scratches..

it all seems to new an shiny,
Good job all the same

I like this robot. Nice and clean design. As a worker robot I expected this guy to look more stable.

The robot looks really cute! It looks like it can become a cute action figure!

Wow, nice realism achieved here. I think his head could be tinier, really, it would make him look bigger. He's really neat though, must've taken quite a while. I want one. Do they do homework too?

You say he's a big worker robot but he don't look too big :p

I think you should do a new render but this time put the camera near the floor plane and point it upp at his face to give a better impression of scale.

Maybe you could pose him a bit more dynamically as he loks a bit like a toy that's been set down on the side.

The actual robot looks cool though. I'm only critisizing the camera setting because I think the object deserves a good camera setting.

Thanks for your comments guys. Bliz, I think you're right. One day I plan to give the bot a proper background and pose him. This render is more to show the completed model with texturing.

This is another render that I found. Scalene max render.

Cool - That looks bigger!

If you've got a car or vehicle mesh, a render of him holding a crumpled car would be cool.

[One of my fav. movies is The Iron Giant. Maybe you can tell?! ;) ]

heh, he's not supposed to be that big :p I pictured him beeing about 4 meters tall.

Odie

though if he was big enough to hold a car in one hand he's sure be able to kick any other forum robot's ass! :D

Thanks everybody! I worked on this thing for like 3 months but I totally redid the legs about halfway through. phantom, it's mostly boxmodelling and a few boolean operations.

Really nice texture. I think you got a chance of getting the CG award

You gonna animate him?

Anyway, overall I think he rocks, looks solid and tough :buttrock:

I really appreciate your comments.

Here's a collection of prelim. wip renders while I was still modeling the different parts of the bot.

My robot can kick your robots ass anytime. And soon I'll have two robots kicking your robots ass ;)

Odie

Just you wait... I've got a girl who can kick your ass in the works in the WIP section... And when she's ready I'm gonna let her open a can of whoopass on you

Odie

hahah bring it on little boy.... bring it on!

:D

Seriously, for those of you who don't know what he's talking about, check out this thread in the WIP section: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36373 It's definitely worth taking a look at. You can find Urg's bot (the one who's getting his ass kicked by mine) on his site.

It brings some nostalgia for me about your design. When life was much simpler...eh hmmm....OK..back to work.

You should make one, cuse. Robots are so cool and so much fun. I think that robots and 3d rendering were made for each other :D

I like how your robot differs from all these Mecha type robots, which are so popular (not that I don't like 'em). Very neat.

Right now I'm working on a bot that's going to look more like a human. He's going to be in an animated short I'm making but probably won't finish for several years.
