Greeting fellow students of art & life! I've been so inspired by the amazing efforts i've seen on this forum that i've decided to pick up those neglected drawing implements and get back to work!

Currently i'm in my final semester of Animation Mentor (www.animationmentor.com (http://www.animationmentor.com/)) and am finishing the first of what i hope to be MANY short films. Upon graduation i'll be enrolling in Watts Atelier (www.wattsatelier.com (http://www.wattsatelier.com/)) in hopes of completing a program of study there too.
I'm also really looking forward to participating in more forum challenges here.

gilgamesh828,

Welcome! :) I'm excited to see your thread go up, you have a lot of skill and it will be a thrill to see your progress here. It sounds like Watts is a great training place, and we'd love to see you post your work from there as well.

Looking forward to seeing your updates!

gilgamesh828,

Hey there, great updates! I would love to see you do a Tutorial on the Forum. :) Really on anything you like ~ Traditional or Digital Drawing and / or Painting.

If you had the time, it would be great if you might create a Tutorial here:

Tutorials and Workshops (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=199)

I just ask that folks call their Tutorials TUTORIAL - *what it's about* - by Your Name.

Would love to see a Tutorial by you, but understand if you're quite busy. :)

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Hi gilgamesh!
Your head studies are very nice! I cannot believe you keep 1.5-3hours at each. I personally can't stay more than 15minutes at copying heads - I found out lately ;)

Keep up this work! Looks great :)

trunks -- 2 hours just FLIES by... the hard part for me is staying loose and big. I niggle details way too early in the process.

rebeccak -- i'd love to do a tutorial. I'll start looking for a proper subject and as soon as this semester's over (and i finish my short film) i'll get right on that..... and back onto my traditional studies!

gilgamesh, are you just using the hard brush to create those texture look? Or are you using a specific brush to get that texture. Also thanks for sharing your process. Beautiful torso studies, great inspiration, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Awesomeness! The torso studies look amazing. The way you captured the light is brilliant. I especially like the first study you posted. Just has the bigest contrast between light and dark which gives a great feeling to the painting.

Keep them coming, please! :bounce:

It's just the hard-edge brush in Open Canvas, just layering up the strokes to pull the lights and push the shadows; hence the hatching usage. However, when i'm at work sneaking a little time to work on these, i can't use Open Canvas b/c it isn't compatible with the cintiq i have there. So there i use Photoshop and my favorite trapezoidal (squarish, but rotated 45 degrees) brush. I don't use a great variety of fancy brushes; i'm just too lazy i guess!

Done as a favor for a friend... I got a bit caught up in the likeness aspect, so to me it feels a bit overworked and lacks some color vibrancy. Oh well, been a long time since i've done a portrait study.... gotta start somewhere.

Rebeccak: Thanks -- well, don't be too jealous.... the very second i got the cintiq hooked up and configured, my boxx machine developed a terminal motherboard glitch! Click, click, LOCKUP.... reboot.... click, click, LOCKUP.....! Well, at least the hard drives are safe. The machine though is probably a total loss since i bought back in 2003 :( I think the God of Computer Arts hates me!

Intervain: Thanks for the support -- lots more to come when i get up and running again!

anandpg: Thanks for stopping by -- your stuff is *really* amazing. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the new workshop. Not sure why the z pic isn't showing up for you -- all the images i post are hosted from the same locale..... Evil Computers!!!

Hmm, really sorry to hear that - I remember that when they installed the Cintiq for the place where I worked previously, the drivers that came with the Cintiq didn't work properly, and we ended up having to download and install the drivers multiple times. I've no idea if that's anything to do with the BOXX problems, but it might not hurt to reinstall the drivers from the web once your machine is back up and running. I hope it works out!

Great studies, those are looking great!

That is really nice. The hand is great, and the lighting is a just lovely. The remarkable thing (coming back to this tab after a few minutes ;)) was how deftly the barrel of the mouth and the nose were recorded when they're obviously bit players in the piece. Great stuff as usual :)

For the Apollo block-in figure you have, the legs look a little short in comparison to the upper body. Not 100% sure if I'm right, but figured I'd mention it. :D
