although i had no stability issues with max 4 some people had..
i have no problems with max 5 either and it's a bit faster too..:thumbsup:

The 5.1 update increases stability apparently. Not that I've had much problems with 5.0...

max 5 crashes frequently after I render with this one particular bitmap. It's a TGA with no transparencies.
aside from that, it's working very well. even faster than 4.2 on my crap system (PIII 750/GeForce2MX)

install Nvidia Detonator 30.00 driver and then softquadro it to a Dcc. Then enable Hardware Accelerated lines.
This give huge speed in viewport and my 3dsmax 5 have only crashed a few times.

i am using max 5 since long and it has hardly crashed for 10r 2 times that too when solving a complex lightracer simulation :)
