demanded, eh? :curious: well in that case... < glad you changed that above ^ sounded a bit rude.
first off, the front end of his torso is way too flat; same with the face. his arms look super small. the neck muscles have no definition. also... what's with all that pinching in the face? and what's so 'jujitsu' about him?
:surprised -ill

explanations help huh. i suppose for now the thread should be named "guy" but once he gets his sh*t together, its gonna be used for jujitsu style fighting...hence the random/almost-swat vest. makes a bit more sense. updates soon, and ill fix the skin texture

if anyone knows a good way to lower the poly count in max, id appreciate your input cuz the side of the face is about as even as its gonna get without unevening something else. theres too many damn polys (even before mesh smooth)
crits or explanations welcome

Show us a wireframe. Since his head is boxy and has fairly little detail there's no reason it should have too many polys before smoothing. You've really got to round out his head a bit, especially his mouth. Keep going.

the easyest way to cut down the poly count is by using the weild tool. if your char is a mesh and i believe poly works also.(i know its different then in max 5 which i am using) so what you would do is go into the subobject mode and select vertex and weild 2 vertexs that are close togather and you would keep going down in a line down your face. if you need more help then just drop me a line and i am glad to help you further

i was meaning to post a wireframe this morning but after i saved the screenshot in psp, it was 6:35 and class started at 6:30
:\
i know all about wielding, i dont know many people who can model a head in splines and not know what wield does :applause:
the problem is that the ears require lots of poly's, i think i just had an epiphiny(sp) when i typed that, ive been meaning to redo the ears anyways, so i think its time to start welding a sh*tload of sh*t. This should improve it alot, the head is way to complex (poly wise) for a "basic" head. Wireframe, as soon as school's over. (im 16 :wavey: )

blargh! You should study some anatomy dude :D
Nice start though

i should take some anatomy? dont make me post my 2d art (in a happy tone, take no offense). 3d is just more complicated...just a little. I fixed alot of the face, cut down on the poly's. and its alot alot alot smoother. i cut the face in half and im gonna work on the features now. expect it to look better during the weekend.
oh btw, i finished AP anatomy last year, k thx :D
thanks for the feedback guys.

hey,
you should really flesh out your model better before you move on to texturing. the reason you were (& still might be) getting that pinching is because you have triangles in & around the cheeks & mouth.
and you should also relax in regards to the anatomy comments. these people are trying to help you out.
did you use reference? please don't tell me that with those three years in anatomy class, that you don't think you need a reference. and if you did indeed use a reference, you should follow it better.

I seriously thought it was a poser model at first until I saw the wire frame. Sorry Ris. Taking some life drawing classes at a local junior college can really help. You get a really good feel for anatomy in the 2D sense that you can later on apply to 3D.

ill-logic, anatomy class doesnt teach you to use reference pics in 3dsmax, so i dont know why you would make a remark suggesting that i have no idea what im doing cuz i wouldnt be asking for help if i did, and obviously i wasnt taking their anatomy comments offensively or i wouldnt have typed "in a happy tone, take no offense" so just plz dont reply if you're not gonna critique on what needs work, the triangles that still exist dont appear to be pinching but if you see a spot that could use some fixing, point it out
null-object - i dont know what you mean by poser model but thanks for the support. i am / have been taking many figure drawing and portraiture classes at the local college.
instead of critiquing my learning style, id really appreciate it if you guys would tell me what needs work on my character thus far. you guys are really starting to annoy me.
