View Full Version : Texture problem with maya!!
DavidBaca3D 01-17-2003, 12:32 AM im working out of the maya tutorial book, and to texture the scene it says to import some textures, i did that. then it says to select the object(a boat) then go over the texture ball, and right click and then click assing material to selectoin. the texture doesnt apply, it applies just a smooth light greyish texture,
i think it has something to do when im importing the textures, there are already like three textures on there, when i import the new textures, they dont add to the list, the go over the other textures, maybe thats what it is??????????? can someone tell me what to do thanks(i know this is probably very simple, but im just starting to learn maya for the first time)

if you're still having this problem, check several things, first, make sure that in the hypershader that you're not using the default texture, just leave that grey, to create a new tex, just right click in the window and go down to Create, and go for blinn or lambert, both are good starting shaders, lambert is matte, blinn has some shine to it. to import the texture into the material, double click on the new material, the side panel should open up with Mat attributes, click to the button to the right of the color slider, and click on file, import the file you want and it should load onto the material. then select your object, right click in Hypshd on the material and select apply to selection. don't worry if it doesn't show up, the reason it's still grey is probably because you don't have materials turned on in your workspace, hit the 6 key and give it a sec to load, it should then load on your object. if you're having problems with placement, etc. after that, that's a much longer explanation. but i hope that helps.
