View Full Version : XSI Character Setup for download

01-16-2003, 11:11 PM
Hi everyone,

I've uploaded a database with a setup. The character was the "KID" downloaded from the 3dfestival.com

This rig is the "lite" version of the one I'm making at the moment. It has a unfinished "synoptic view", the "hand control" page has no function at this point.
It has facial controls (custom PPG), very basic but should be enough forsome lipsync. The hands are a little bit freaky, but that's mainly because of how it was mode (I didn't make the mesh). The arms are FK, you can easily make them IK if you want.

The setup should be enough to perfom most tasks.

The UI:

Anyhow, I hope you all "xsiers" likes it.

i'm back
first i would like to thancs you that is cool :)

is-it a Lite version ?

i have trouble reseting relative value after a first test playing the mixer :)
not mind, i reloaded then the foot rig impress me ,.., arms-parts too after put them in FK.

at start the 6 squares for the lower and upper body let me like this :surprised , i don't have so many controls in mine's .. but you're right. they are all used.

the muscles assist by spheres on the torso look very interresting i' can't do that myself for the moment

it's pleasant and simple to move

they are some other things that i would like to talk but my english "fait rire" lol

:buttrock:

again Stefan thancs :)

I'm glad you liked it. It's has a few problems and I haven't included all muscle controls yet. I like to use FK for my spine instead of using the Spine rig.

The foot rig is my own version of "reversed bone".

Anyhow, post some animation when you have done something, it would be nice to see how someone else is using my rig.

Hi Stefan

Buen I really like your setup, I can't do animation with mine, I have to work, yours works well.

your foot rig is very cool and this lite rig too :)

during this little animation I found no problem, no bug, no stress, and this is excellent.

i take this rig like a lite one, and like an all purpose one, cause specific rig are made for specific scene and this one fit all animation needs , not one in particular.

thancs for sharing this setup

this is the little animation www.etrehumain.net/sneak_walk/sneak_walk.avi

(all inbetweens are missing)

PS : don't know who model this character
:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

The 3D mesh was downloaded from http://www.3dfestival.com/

It was a good model to test my setups on. The setup you are animating with now is something I've been working on for a while. So months of research ended up in the setup you have now.
I'm in the process of making a new rig for a "fat" character too. But that one I can't share with, sorry.

The animation looks nice. Please post more when you have something.

when i turn FK for arm the hand control stay in place, it doesn't follow the hand bones.. even the entire body . dunno if it's normal

i think it will be cool if in FK when rotating the hand the wrist stay driven by the hand or having the option to do it or not. but this is really a personal question that feet or not to who is animating the character.

I'm learning a lot from your rig like the joncrow's one in their tutorials section..

Congrats :) You just found one problem in my rig that I haven't fixed yet. It should be easy to fix though.

The hand should of course be controlled when you are in FK mode. It's simply a mistake from my side. When I'll have some time I'll fix it, but I will be pretty busy now for a few weeks.

Hey Stefan, I really like the rig. Im trying to rig my character and need a little bit of help. Ive been all over the place online trying to find tutorials. Do you have a link to a website that tutors how to rig character specially low poly models. Or maybe, you can show us how to rig using SNAGIT (http://www.techsmith.com). =) Thanks in advance.

I'm glad you liked the rig. I haven't had any time to make a tutorial about how to make that rig that you tested. It's a bit complicated so making a tutorial for it would take some time.
I have however made some other rigging tutorials that you can find here: http://www.edharriss.com/
Those should be enough to get you started.

Also subscribe to the XSI mailing list to get more feedbacks and tips. But beware... there's about 100+ mails a day :)
