Hey people!

I have been browsing CGSociety for about two years and this is my first post. This is also my first digital painting. I do not own a tablet (yet) which is why I am currently using the mouse for painting.

I need help with this portrait. I have been using 'natural brushs' and keeping my opacity/flow level ranges from only 1% to 12% with which I have jsut been filling up colors and gradualyl building up the shades. This process has been taking me a while and I'd like critiques on how the portrait is going. I wish I had more contrast. I am aware that the perspective isn't right (the eyes arent aligned to the lips), the eyes itself need fixing, and the hair; but, I'd like to hear from you guys and your tips on improving my painting.

I have never done a portrait before (just once in high school)...and I'd really appreciate on how to move on with this.

Thanx
Az

I think the pupils are too small. The top lip is too sharp.

You are very good (or patient) with a mouse, that's impressive!

Thanx kefka,

I will put those two issues into consideration as i move on with this. The pupils are a bit small. I was having lot of problems with the who eye set. I've never been able to make eyes properly in any of my sketches ever. It's hard for me to draw eyes that look in the same direction. LOL.

Using a mouse...I guess its more about patience. To be honest, its a terrible experience...its very important to have my left hand on CTRL-Z all the way. :)

Saying that you use a mouse is not an excuse for poor work. I'm not saying that your work isn't good, it's great, just some anatomical errors that's all. But there are very few things that a tablet can do that a mouse can't, so don't let the mouse let you down!

pap87,

yeah, thats very true...its just anatomical errors that i have. I'm not blamming the mouse about that. However, drawing a proper curve with a mouse has given me a rough time, whereas in traditional pencil sketches I do lots better.

I won't let this mouse bring me down, until I get a wacom.

thanx

enjoy
